Developing advanced adsorbents for selectively deducing mercury (Hg) in water to one billionth level is of great significance for public health and ecological security, but achieving the balance among efficiency, cost and environmental friendliness of adsorbents still faces enormous challenges. Herein, we present a high thiol content non-conjugated nano polymer network (PVB-SH) through simple microemulsion polymerization for efficient Hg ion (Hg(II)) removal. The PVB-SH is prepared by conventional commercial reagents and does not consume toxic organic solutions.

RNA performs a remarkable range of functions, such as RNA processing, chromosome maintenance and dosage compensation. Technologies that robustly and specifically image RNA in its native state are highly desirable, as these technologies can help researchers clarify the localization and functionality of diverse RNAs. Here, we describe the development of a sequence-activated fluorescent RNA (SaFR) technique.

A continuous-flow method for the direct oxidation of alcohols to carboxylic acids is reported, employing hydrogen peroxide (HO) and a platinum (Pt) catalyst within a flow reactor system. This approach allows for precise control over the contact time between the reactants and the catalyst, enabling optimization of reaction conditions. By analyzing the yields of both aldehydes and carboxylic acids as a function of weight hourly space velocity (WHSV), selective synthesis of carboxylic acids was achieved without the formation of corresponding aldehydes.

Two-dimensional semiconducting gallium sulfide (GaS) has garnered notable interest for its distinct structural and optical properties, which position it as a promising candidate material for various applications ranging from photodetection and photovoltaics to nonlinear frequency conversion. In this work, we determined the out-of-plane longitudinal sound velocity, , via impulsive time-domain femtosecond broadband Brillouin scattering measurements performed on a single flake-like GaS crystal. We obtained a value (3140 ± 20) m/s, which yields an out-of-plane compressive elastic constant, = (38.

In light of the growing need to mitigate climate change impacts, this study presents an innovative methodology combining ensemble machine learning with experimental data to accurately predict the carbon dioxide footprint (CO-FP) of fly ash geopolymer concrete. The approach employs adaptive boosting to enhance decision tree regression (DTR) and support vector regression (SVR), resulting in a robust predictive framework. The models used key material features, including fly ash concentration, fine and coarse aggregates, superplasticizer, curing temperature, and alkali activator levels.

Fibers have been of great significance in our daily lives, especially in the industrial production of masks. Research in this area has been focused on developing microfibers with superior functions to enhance the filtration performances of the masks. Herein, inspired by the frog's predation mechanism using its tongues to swiftly grab flying insects, we propose novel porous wettable microfibers from microfluidics to efficiently capture particles in the air for filtration.

This paper addresses the dynamic neural networks (DNNs) based resilient leader-following consensus control of multi-agent systems (MASs) under unidentified false data injection (FDI) attacks. We have examined generic linear leader-following agents in the context of stochastic FDI attacks on the network topology. When information is sent from one agent to another, it is altered as a result of the attacks.

Autophagy is a conserved catabolic process crucial for maintaining cellular homeostasis and has emerged as a promising therapeutic target for many diseases. Mechanistically novel small-molecule autophagy regulators are highly desirable from a pharmacological point of view. Here, we report the macroautophagy-inhibitory effect of hapalindole Q, a member of the structurally intriguing but biologically understudied hapalindole family of indole terpenoids.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder, hallmarked by the gradual deterioration of motor neurons, culminating in muscle weakness and fatal paralysis. The exact etiology of ALS remains elusive, and there is a critical need for reliable biomarkers to aid in diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have emerged as promising candidates for biomarker discovery in neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS, giving access to pathologically relevant tissues otherwise typically challenging or invasive to sample.

Arylborane complexes ligated by N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) can be synthesized by photoirradiation of a mixture of NHC-boranes and sulfonyl(hetero)arenes. The reaction occurs under mild and convenient conditions without any photocatalyst, which are realized by a radical chain mechanism involving NHC-boryl radicals and sulfonyl radicals. This reaction offered the opportunity to reveal the photophysical property of a 2-borylnaphtho[1,2-]thiazole derivative.

Fungicides effectively prevent and control crop diseases caused by microorganisms; however, they also unintentionally affect soil microorganisms and enzyme activity. This study conducted a meta-analysis of 73 published studies to investigate the effects of fungicide application concentration and duration on soil respiration, microbial diversity, and enzyme activity. Increasing the concentration of fungicide application significantly reduced soil basal respiration and microbial carbon, with inhibitory effects reaching 1.

Background: Metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is one of the most prevalent liver diseases worldwide, with a global prevalence estimated between 3% and 5%, posing a significant health burden. Human liver organoids (HLOs) have previously been generated to model steatohepatitis, offering a potential cellular disease model for studying MASH. However, the current HLO model lacks detailed molecular characterizations and requires further improvement.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials with intrinsic antiferromagnetic (AFM) order provide a unique avenue to harness both charge and spin degrees of freedom for practical spintronics applications. Here, by using ab initio electronic structure calculations, the interplay of discrete crystal symmetries (such as inversion ( ), time-reversal ( ), or combined symmetry) of 2D semiconducting AFM manganese selenide (MnSe) and external electric field along with graphene proximity is investigated. We show that both an external electric field and graphene proximity can independently break otherwise conserved combined symmetry in 2D MnSe, resulting in large and tunable spin-splittings in both valence and conduction bands, and provide electrical control over a wide energy range.

Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) is a powerful technique with widespread applications in various scientific fields, including biology. It operates by precisely detecting the interaction between a sharp tip and a sample surface, providing high-resolution topographical information and mechanical properties at a nanoscale. Through the years, a deeper understanding of this tip-sample interaction and the mechanisms by which it can be more precisely regulated have invariably led to improvements in AFM imaging.

Sodium alginate is a highly promising biopolymer for use as an eco-friendly/green corrosion inhibitor (CI), despite its limited solubility. In this study, a green and water-soluble modified sodium alginate (MSA) salt was synthesized and employed as a CI on pipeline N80 carbon steel (N80CS) in artificial sea water (ASW) medium. Various analytical tools related to surface and structure were utilized to describe the properties of the newly synthesized MSA polymer.
