Criegee intermediates (CIs) are potentially significant oxidants and a major source of OH radicals in the troposphere. The -CHCHOO intermediate has been confirmed as a crucial component of CIs in the atmospheric environment. Although previous studies have provided some experimental and theoretical rate constants, inconsistencies among these data remain, and the experimental data do not cover the full range of temperatures present in the troposphere.

By integrating iron-cobalt squarate bimetallic metal-organic framework (Fe-Co-SqBMoF) based smart material (SM) with functional DNA (fDNA), we designed a target responsive fDNA@Fe-Co-SqBMoF bioelectrode that exhibits recognition induced switchable response to serve as a reagentless single step electrochemical apta-switch (REA). The construct takes advantage of fDNA ability to bind and concentrate target on the receptor interface, while Fe-Co-SqBMoF@SM multifeatures to serve as an immobilization matrix and a signal generating electrochemical switch. Fe-Co-SqBMoF was introduced to prepare a redox active pencil graphite electrode (PGE), while fDNA (aptamer) was decorated on the receptor PGE to impart specificity and selectivity.

Air pollution monitoring and modeling are the most important focus of climate and environment decision-making organizations. The development of new methods for air quality prediction is one of the best strategies for understanding weather contamination. In this research, different air quality parameters were forecasted, including Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitrogen Monoxide (NO), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO), Ozone (O), Sulphur Dioxide (SO), Fine Particles Matter (PM), Coarse Particles Matter (PM), and Ammonia (NH).

With the continuous clamor for a reduction in embodied carbon in cement, rapid solution to climate change, and reduction to resource depletion, studies into substitute binders become crucial. These cementitious binders can potentially lessen our reliance on cement as the only concrete binder while also improving concrete functional properties. Finer particles used in cement microstructure densify the pore structure of concrete and enhance its performance properties.

Biological systems utilize precise spatial organization to facilitate and regulate information transmission within signaling networks. Inspired by this, artificial scaffolds that enable delicate spatial arrangements are desirable to increase the local concentration of reactants, expedite specific interactions, and minimize undesired interference. In this study, we presented an integrated biosensing nanodevice, termed TRI-HCR, in which hybridization chain reaction (HCR) probes were precisely organized on a triangular DNA origami nanostructure (TRI) with finely-tuned distance, quantity, and pattern.

Midbrain dopamine (mDA) neurons participate in a wide range of brain functions through an intricate regulation of DA biosynthesis. The epigenetic factors and mechanisms in this process are not well understood. Here we report that histone demethylase JMJD3 is a critical regulator for DA biosynthesis in adult mouse mDA neurons.

Nitrate (NO ) contamination from industrial, agricultural, and anthropogenic activities poses significant risks to human health and ecosystems. While traditional NO remediation methods are effective, they often generate secondary pollutants and incur high costs. Electrochemical NO reduction (ECNR) offers a sustainable alternative, converting NO into environmentally benign nitrogen (N) or valuable ammonia (NH).

This study introduces a UiO-66-NH/Tannic acid/Polyvinylidene fluoride (UTP) composite membrane for efficient oil-water separation. Pristine polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes, due to their hydrophobic nature, tend to foul during oil-in-water emulsion separation. By incorporating the metal-organic framework (MOF) UiO-66-NH and stabilizing it with tannic acid (TA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), the membrane's hydrophilicity and antifouling properties were significantly enhanced.

Leber's congenital amaurosis (LCA) represents a set of rare and pervasive hereditary conditions of the retina that cause severe vision loss starting in early childhood. Targeted treatment intervention has become possible thanks to recent advances in understanding LCA genetic basis. While viral vectors have shown efficacy in gene delivery, they present challenges related to safety, low cargo capacity, and the potential for random genomic integration.

In this issue of Molecular Cell, Sun et al. reveal that the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) DNAJC3-AS1 plays a dual role in maintaining the rRNA processing function of fibrillarin (FBL) in cancer cells. It promotes FBL condensation while preventing abnormal aggregation, offering new therapeutic insights for cancer treatment by targeting lncRNAs involved in the regulation of FBL condensation.

Two-dimensional organic-inorganic (2DOI) van der Waals hybrids (vdWhs) have emerged as a groundbreaking subclass of layer-stacked (opto-)electronic materials. The development of 2DOI-vdWhs via systematically integrating inorganic 2D layers with organic 2D crystals at the molecular/atomic scale extends the capabilities of traditional 2D inorganic vdWhs, thanks to their high synthetic flexibility and structural tunability. Constructing an organic-inorganic hybrid interface with atomic precision will unlock new opportunities for generating unique interfacial (opto-)electronic transport properties by combining the strengths of organic and inorganic layers, thus allowing us to satisfy the growing demand for multifunctional applications.

The objective of this study was to characterize hemodynamic changes during trans-vascular stimulation of the renal nerve and their dependence on stimulation parameters. We employed a stimulation catheter inserted in the right renal artery under fluoroscopic guidance, in pigs. Systolic, diastolic and pulse blood pressure and heart rate were recorded during stimulations delivered at different intravascular sites along the renal artery or while varying stimulation parameters (amplitude, frequency, and pulse width).

In this study, the short-beam shear strength (SBSS) retention of two types of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars-sand-coated (SG) and ribbed (RG)-was subjected to alkaline, acidic, and water conditions for up to 12 months under both high-temperature and ambient laboratory conditions. Comparative assessments were also performed on older-generation sand-coated (SG-O) and ribbed (RG-O1 and RG-O2) GFRP bars exposed to identical conditions. The results demonstrate that the new-generation GFRP bars, SG and RG, exhibited significantly better durability in harsh environments and exhibited SBSS retentions varying from 61 to 100% in SG and 90-98% in RG under the harshest conditions compared to 56-69% in SG-O, 71-80% in RG-O1, and 74-88% in RG-O2.

Herein, we unveil a remarkable finding for synthesizing room-temperature-stable, nontoxic, ultrasmall free-standing diamond cubic tin nanocrystals (α-Sn) with beta forms in the aqueous phase, avoiding conventional approaches that typically use toxic elements or large reactive substrates (Si/InSb) to stabilize α-Sn above 13 °C. Herein, for the first time, we demonstrate the successful synthesis of free-standing alpha tin with extraordinary stability up to 80 °C and in the aqueous phase at room temperature, which was supported by powder X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy characterization methods. This synthetic approach eliminates the need to use hazardous materials, bulky substrates, and elevated temperatures, offering a safer, low-cost, and more sustainable alternative.

Ferroptosis is a recently characterized form of cell death that has gained attention for its roles in both pathological and physiological contexts. The existence of multiple anti-ferroptotic pathways in both neoplastic and healthy cells, along with the critical regulation of iron metabolism involved in lipid peroxides (lipid-ROS) production-the primary mediators of this cell death process-underscores the necessity of precisely controlling or preventing accidental/unwanted ferroptosis. Conversely, dysregulated iron metabolism and alterations in the expression or activity of key anti-ferroptotic components are linked to the development and progression of various human diseases, including multiple sclerosis (MS).
