Background: The risk of esophageal cancer after bariatric surgery is a matter of debate.
Objective: This study aims to evaluate the risk of esophageal cancer following sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and gastric bypass (GB).
Methods: We extracted data from the national discharge database (Programme De Médicalisation des Systèmes d'Information) for patients who underwent bariatric surgery in France between 2007 and 2020.

Background: Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinomas (PSC) are notorious for their poor prognosis and resistance to chemotherapy. The literature suggests that immunotherapy might be effective against this aggressive tumor. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of immunotherapy, either alone or combined with chemotherapy, as first-line treatment for PSC patients.

Study Question: Does luteal estradiol (E2) pretreatment give a similar number of retrieved oocytes compared to no-pretreatment in advanced-aged women stimulated with corifollitropin alfa in an antagonist protocol?
Summary Answer: Programming antagonist cycles with luteal E2 gave similar number of retrieved oocytes compared to no-pretreatment in women aged 38-42 years.
What Is Known Already: Programming antagonist cycles with luteal E2 pretreatment is a valuable tool to organize the IVF procedure better and is safe without any known impact on cycle outcome. However, variable effects were observed on the number of retrieved oocytes depending on the treated population.

Purpose: To describe the experience of performing ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) before hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), among girls/women with severe sickle cell disease (SCD)(SS or S/β-thalassemia) who are, besides the usual surgical risk, at risk of SCD-related complications during the fertility preservation procedure for improving their counseling and management.
Methods: This retrospective study included 75 patients (girls/women) with SCD who have had OTC before myeloablative conditioning regimen (MAC) for HSCT. Characteristics of patients and data on OTC, ovarian status follow-up, and results of ovarian tissue transplantation (OTT) were collected in medical records.

Using multiple national surveillance systems, we found an increase in the incidence of invasive pneumococcal disease during after the relaxation of non-pharmaceutical interventions against COVID-19, which strongly varied by age. Age groups with higher incidence of respiratory syncytial virus and influenza also experienced higher increase in invasive pneumococcal disease incidence, with no change in pneumococcal carriage.

Background: A growing number of centers worldwide are preserving testicular tissue (TT) of young boys at risk of fertility loss to preserve their fertility. Data in this regard are scarce and experience sharing is essential to the optimization of the process.
Objectives: This report of our 10-year activity of pediatric fertility preservation (FP) has the objective to (1) improve knowledge regarding the feasibility, acceptability, safety, and potential usefulness of the procedure; (2) analyze the impact of chemotherapy on spermatogonia in the cryopreserved TT.

Epidemiological surveillance of nasopharyngeal pneumococcal carriage is important for monitoring serotype distribution and antibiotic resistance, particularly before and after the implementation of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs). With a prospective surveillance study in France, we aimed to analyze the dynamics of pneumococcal carriage, antibiotic susceptibility and serotype distribution in children aged 6 to 24 months who had acute otitis media between 2001 and 2022 with a focus on the late PCV13 period from May 2014 to July 2022. Trends were analyzed with segmented linear regression with autoregressive error.

Study Question: Is the total number of oocytes retrieved with dual ovarian stimulation in the same cycle (duostim) higher than with two consecutive antagonist cycles in poor responders?
Summary Answer: Based on the number of total and mature oocytes retrieved in women with poor ovarian response (POR), there is no benefit of duostim versus two consecutive antagonist cycles.
What Is Known Already: Recent studies have shown the ability to obtain oocytes with equivalent quality from the follicular and the luteal phase, and a higher number of oocytes within one cycle when using duostim. If during follicular stimulation smaller follicles are sensitized and recruited, this may increase the number of follicles selected in the consecutive luteal phase stimulation, as shown in non-randomized controlled trials (RCT).

Background: Most of the studies on cystic fibrosis (CF) focused on SARS-CoV-2 prevalence and suggested a low incidence of infection in this population. We aimed to assess the impact of the pandemic and related lockdown measures implemented in May 2020 in response to the first wave of SARS-CoV-2 infection on healthcare access, health, and behavior in CF patients.
Methods: A national questionnaire opened online from May 15th, 2020 to June 11, 2020 was completed by 751 CF-patients, aged 14 years and over.

Our objective was to evaluate postoperative pain and opioid consumption in patients undergoing hysterectomy by low-impact laparoscopy and compare these parameters with conventional laparoscopy. We conducted a prospective study in two French gynecological surgery departments from May 2017 to January 2018. The primary endpoint was the intensity of postoperative pain evaluated by a validated numeric rating scale (NRS) and opioid consumption in the postoperative recovery unit on Day 0 and Day 1.

Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents have transformed the management of patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) over the past two decades. However, as more long-term real-world data become available, it is clear that treatment outcomes are inferior to those reported in large, controlled clinical trials. This is largely driven by undertreatment, that is, not maintaining a consistent injection frequency to achieve sustained VEGF suppression, whether due to patient non-compliance, an important injection burden, or non/incomplete anatomical response.

Background: Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Neisseria meningitidis, which are typically transmitted via respiratory droplets, are leading causes of invasive diseases, including bacteraemic pneumonia and meningitis, and of secondary infections subsequent to post-viral respiratory disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of invasive disease due to these pathogens during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: In this prospective analysis of surveillance data, laboratories in 26 countries and territories across six continents submitted data on cases of invasive disease due to S pneumoniae, H influenzae, and N meningitidis from Jan 1, 2018, to May, 31, 2020, as part of the Invasive Respiratory Infection Surveillance (IRIS) Initiative.
