Previous electrochemically powered yarn muscles cannot be usefully operated between extreme negative and extreme positive potentials, since generated stresses during anion injection and cation injection partially cancel because they are in the same direction. We here report an ionomer-infiltrated hybrid carbon nanotube (CNT) yarn muscle that shows unipolar stress behavior in the sense that stress generation between extreme potentials is additive, resulting in an enhanced stress generation. Moreover, the stress generated by this muscle unexpectedly increases with the potential scan rate, which contradicts the fact that scan-rate-induced stress decreases for neat CNT muscles.

A generalized predictive control for remote cardiovascular surgical systems.

ISA Trans

September 2020

Intelligent Robotics Research Center, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Robot-assisted cardiovascular surgery is used to avoid surgeon suffering from X-ray radiation and relieve fatigue caused by long-time standing wearing protective clothing. Its remote surgery can alleviate the lack of experienced doctors in remote areas. Due to the existence of time-delay phenomena, flexible deformation and nonlinearity of interventional instruments, it is difficult to ensure system transparency.

Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology, Seoul National University, Seoul KR 08826, Korea.

This study describes a three-dimensional visualization system with spatial information for the effective control of a tele-operated robot. The environmental visualization system for operating the robot is very important. The tele-operated robot performs tasks in a disaster area that is not accessible to humans.
