Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to assess the connection between spleen volume and the onset of hepatic encephalopathy (HE) following transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) in patients with liver cirrhosis.
  • It analyzed data from 135 patients, revealing that a smaller spleen volume post-TIPS was significantly linked to a higher incidence of overt HE, with 37 patients (27.2%) experiencing it within a year.
  • The findings suggest that preoperative spleen volume serves as an independent risk factor for developing HE after the TIPS procedure, indicating its importance in patient monitoring and management.

Objective: High-risk types of diffuse gliomas in adults include isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) wild-type glioblastomas and grade 4 astrocytomas. Achieving noninvasive prediction of high-risk molecular subtypes of gliomas is important for personalized and precise diagnosis and treatment.

Methods: We retrospectively collected data from 116 patients diagnosed with adult diffuse gliomas.

Gliomas, the most prevalent primary malignant tumors of the central nervous system, present significant challenges in diagnosis and prognosis. The fifth edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System (WHO CNS5) published in 2021, has emphasized the role of high-risk molecular markers in gliomas. These markers are crucial for enhancing glioma grading and influencing survival and prognosis.

Chronic wound healing remains challenging due to the oxidative microenvironment. Prussian blue (PB) nanoparticles exhibiting multiple antioxidant enzyme-like activities have attracted widespread attention, while their antioxidant efficacy remains unsatisfied. Herein, ultrasmall calcium-enriched Prussian blue nanoparticles (CaPB NPs) are simply constructed with high yields for the wound repair application.

Department of Medical Imaging, First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, Intelligent Imaging Big Data and Functional Nano-Imaging Engineering Research Center of Shanxi Province, Taiyuan, 030001, People's Republic of China.

Radiotherapy (RT) plays an important role in tumor therapy due to its noninvasiveness and wide adaptation. In recent years, radiation therapy has been discovered to induce an anti-tumor immune response, which arouses widespread concern among scientists and clinicians. In this review, we highlight recent advances in the applications of nano-biomaterials for radiotherapy-activated immunotherapy.

Department of Radiology, First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China.; Shanxi Key Laboratory of Intelligent Imaging and Nanomedicine, First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China.; Intelligent Imaging Big Data and Functional Nano-imaging Engineering Research Center of Shanxi Province, First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China.. Electronic address:

Rationale And Objectives: To investigate whether diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) can distinguish mild cognitive impairment (MCI) from normal controls (NC) in aluminum (Al)-exposed workers, and to explore the association of DKI with cognitive performance and plasma Al concentration.

Materials And Methods: 28 patients with MCI and 25 NC at Al factory were enrolled in this study. All subjects underwent conventional MRI and DKI scans.

Tentorial ectopic schwannoma: A case report and literature review.

Radiol Case Rep

March 2023

Department of Radiology, First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, No. 85, South Jiefang Road, Yingze District, Taiyuan 030001, Shanxi Province, China.

Schwannomas arising within the central nervous system unrelated to a major cranial nerve rarely originate from the dura, particularly the tentorium. Hereby, the reported case is a 39-year-old female with blurred vision in her right eye for 1 month who was diagnosed with tentorial ectopic schwannoma. The tumor was almost totally resected through a posterior median incision approach without any neurological deficits.

Purpose: To explore the role of bi-parametric MRI radiomics features in identifying PNI in high-grade PCa and to further develop a combined nomogram with clinical information.

Methods: 183 high-grade PCa patients were included in this retrospective study. Tumor regions of interest (ROIs) were manually delineated on T2WI and DWI images.

As the most common neuro-epithelial tumors of the central nervous system in adults, gliomas are highly malignant and easy to recurrence, with a dismal prognosis. Imaging studies are indispensable for tracking tumor progression (TP) or treatment-related changes (TRCs). During follow-up, distinguishing TRCs from TP in treated patients with gliomas remains challenging as both share similar clinical symptoms and morphological imaging characteristics (with new and/or increasing enhancing mass lesions) and fulfill criteria for progression.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the value of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) in assessing postoperative changes in intracranial gliomas.

Method: A total of fifty-one patients who had new enhanced lesions after surgical resection followed by standard radiotherapy and chemotherapy were collected retrospectively from October 2014 to June 2021. The patients were divided into a pseudoprogression group (15 cases) and a recurrence group (36 cases) according to the pathological results of the second operation or a follow-up of more than six months.
