The clinical utility of electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring in anesthesia and intensive care settings is multifaceted, offering critical insights into the level of consciousness and depth of anesthesia, facilitating the titration of anesthetic doses, and enabling the detection of ischemic events and epileptic activity. Additionally, EEG monitoring can aid in predicting perioperative neurocognitive disorders, assessing the impact of systemic insults on cerebral function, and informing neuroprognostication.

Alterations of mitochondrial bioenergetics and arginine metabolism are universally present and mechanistically linked to pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), but there is little knowledge of arginine metabolism and mitochondrial functions across the different pulmonary hypertension (PH) groups. We hypothesize that abnormalities in mitochondrial functions are present across all PH groups and associated with clinical phenotypes. We test the hypothesis in PH patients and healthy controls from the Pulmonary Vascular Disease Phenomics Program cohort, who had comprehensive clinical phenotyping and follow-up for at least 4 years for death or transplant status.

Colistin, a polymyxin antibiotic, is increasingly used to manage infections caused by multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria. This case report documents the occurrence of colistin-induced neurotoxicity manifesting as bulbar palsy in a 38-year-old male with a complex medical history. The patient, presenting with septic shock secondary to a diabetic foot ulcer, was administered colistin and meropenem, leading to a progressive onset of neurological symptoms.

This paper reviews available therapeutic options for the clinician intending to individualize care toward patient goals.
Recent Findings: The contemporary targeted interventions for COPD include the novel phosphodiesterase inhibitor ensifentrine, the interleukin-4 receptor (IL4R alpha subunit) antibody dupilumab, augmentation therapy for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.

COPD is a heterogeneous condition, with tobacco smoking being the main environmental risk factor. The presence of type 2 (T2) inflammation is a well-recognised feature of asthma; however, it is now apparent that a subset of COPD patients also displays evidence of T2 inflammation with respect to elevated eosinophil counts and altered gene and protein expression of several T2 inflammatory mediators. T2 inflammatory mediators represent an attractive therapeutic target in both COPD and asthma; however, the efficacy of pharmaceutical interventions varies between diseases.

Whether these measurements are correlated with Central Venous Pressure (CVP) measurements in liver transplant patients is unknown. We sought to assess the correlation of maximum and minimum SVC diameter and SVC collapsibility index measurements obtained intraoperatively by Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) with those of simultaneously recorded CVP measurements obtained through a right atrial port of a pulmonary artery catheter.
