The propargylic dialkyl effect (PDAE) has a significant impact on the cyclization reaction of enynes, partly reflected in changing the types of products. Herein, we described the influence of the propargylic dialkyl effect on the Ir(III)-catalyzed cycloisomerization of 1,6-enynes to provide strained cyclobutenes. A series of substituted 1,6-enynes were proved to be excellent substrate candidates in the presence of [Cp*IrCl] in toluene.

Copper water pipelines are widely used in water distribution systems, but the effects of solid copper corrosion products (CCPs) including CuO, CuO and Cu(OH)CO on the generation of iodinated trihalomethanes (I-THMs) during chloramination remain unknown. This study found that the formation of I-THMs during chloramination of humic acid (HA) was inhibited by the presence of CuO and CuO, but promoted with the addition of Cu(OH)CO. The negative effect of CuO and CuO is mainly exerted by promoting the decay of both NHCl and HOI.

UV/NHCl process is becoming increasingly important for water treatment, while its impact on iodine-containing water remains unknown. In this study, the structure transformation of dissolved organic matters (DOMs), generation of iodinated trihalomethanes (I-THMs), and variation of acute toxicity were evaulated during the UV/NHCl treatment of iodine-containing water. The combination of exciation emission matrix-parallel factor analysis and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy integrated with synchronous fluorescence and infrared absorption spectroscopy showed that fulvic-like fraction of DOM was more susceptible to UV/NHCl process and particularly iodo and polysaccharide groups gave the fastest resopnses.

Plant and cyanobacteria can perceive signals from soluble sugar and reactive oxygen species (ROS) and then coordinate gene expression under stress acclimation, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we found that the transcriptional factor PrqR (Slr0895) in Synechocystis can perceive signals from ROS generated after shifting from prolonged darkness with glucose into high-light. The deletion mutant (DprqR) showed increased growth rate and decreased ROS content, whereas the complementary strain (CprqR) restored the growth characteristics, phenotypes and ROS status of WT, thereby establishing PrqR as a negative regulator of ROS.

Unlabelled: N-octadecane, the shortest solid-state alkane, was efficiently consumed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa SJTD-1. To reveal its mechanism, the iTRAQ-LC-MS/MS strategy was applied for quantification of proteins in response to alkane. As a result, 383 alkane-responsive proteins were identified and these proteins could be linked to multiple biochemical pathways.
