Case report: Additional grounds for tighter regulation? A case series of five women with zolpidem dependence from a Brazilian women-specific substance use disorder outpatient service.

Objective: This study presents a case series of five women with zolpidem dependence treated at the Drug Dependent Women Treatment Center (PROMUD), one of the first women-specific substance use disorder outpatient services in Latin America.

Methods: This was an retrospective review of medical records of patients with a diagnosis of zolpidem dependence at the Institute of Psychiatry of Clinics Hospital of University of São Paulo between December 2021 and December 2023. Description of the cases followed the Case Report Statement, Checklist and Guidelines (CARE).

Immunogenicity and safety of the fourth dose of quadrivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in immunosuppressed women who did not seroconvert after three doses.

Introduction: Immunocompromised persons have high risk of persistent human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and HPV-related diseases, and lower immune response to vaccines. This study evaluated the immunogenicity and safety of administering a fourth dose of quadrivalent (4v)HPV vaccine in immunosuppressed women who did not seroconvert after three doses.

Methods: An open-label, not-controlled trial included immunosuppressed women (solid organ transplant patients and women receiving treatment for SLE) who did not seroconvert to at least one of the four HPV vaccine types after three 4vHPV vaccine doses.

Effects of paclitaxel and methotrexate associated with cholesterol-rich nanoemulsions on ischemia-reperfusion injury after unilateral lung transplantation in rats.

Currently, the barrier to successful lung transplantation is ischemia and reperfusion injury, which can lead to the development of bronchiolitis obliterans. Paclitaxel and methotrexate are drugs known to inhibit cell proliferation and have anti-inflammatory effects, and the association of these drugs with cholesterol-rich nanoparticles has been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of other transplanted organs. Thirty-three male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 3 groups: Basal group, no intervention; Control group, received only nanoparticles; Drug group, paclitaxel and methotrexate treatment.

2024 Standardization of Polysomnography Reports - A Consensus of the Brazilian Sleep Association.

 The absence of standardized reporting for sleep medicine exams across different laboratories can lead to misinterpretation, diagnostic inconsistencies, and suboptimal treatment strategies. This document seeks to establish guidelines for the development of sleep study reports, covering recordings from studies of types 1 to 4, and represents the official position of Associação Brasileira do Sono (ABS; Brazilian Sleep Association) on the standardization of polysomnography (PSG) and cardiorespiratory polygraphies.  The recommendations for the items to be reported in PSG records were developed by means of a Delphi study, comprised of two voting rounds.

Early rituximab versus escalating therapy in neuromyelitis optica: A cost and quality of life analysis.

Introduction: Rituximab, an anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody, has shown effectiveness in reducing disease relapses and disability accrual through relapses in patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD). However, its higher cost compared to oral immunosuppressants raises questions about its cost-effectiveness, particularly in low and middle-income countries. This study aimed to compare the cost-effectiveness of early rituximab treatment versus escalation treatment in NMOSD patients.

LEVELS OF EVIDENCE IN ONCOLOGIC-ORTHOPEDIC STUDIES - ACTA ORTOP BRAS (1993-2022).

Objectives: to identify oncological-orthopedic studies published in Acta Ortopédica Brasileira over three decades; to classify them according to the type and level of evidence (LE); to observe the inter-rater agreement in the classification of studies; to analyze the studies retrospectively, according to levels of evidence; and to outline the evolution of the evidence in the study period.

Methods: Descriptive analyses were performed with absolute and relative frequencies of studies published between 1993 and 2022. Inter-rater agreement was analyzed by percentage of agreement and Kappa statistic (95%CI).

Audiological Characterization of Individuals with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome.

 Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS) is a genetic disorder in which individuals may present sensorineural and/or conductive hearing loss, and the results of behavioral auditory assessments are not accurate.  To characterize the audiological profile of individuals with CdLS through behavioral, electroacoustic, and electrophysiological audiological assessments.  The study included 13 individuals of both sexes, aged between 3 and 26 years, with diagnoses confirmed through genetic studies.

Memory complaints after COVID-19: a potential indicator of primary cognitive impairment or a correlate of psychiatric symptoms?

Cognitive impairment and symptoms of psychiatric disorders have been reported frequently as features of post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study aims to investigate subjective memory complaints in COVID-19 survivors and determine if these are more strongly associated with objective cognitive impairment related to sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection or with symptoms of psychiatric conditions. A total of 608 COVID-19 survivors were evaluated in-person 6-11 months after hospitalization, with 377 patients assigned to a "no subjective memory complaint (SMC)" group and 231 patients assigned to an SMC group based on their Memory Complaint Scale scores.

Intra-Abdominal Candidiasis in Cancer Patients: A 10-Year Experience in a Middle-Income Country.

Background: Invasive candidiasis (IC) represents a significant threat to both mortality and morbidity, especially among vulnerable populations. Intra-abdominal candidiasis (IAC) frequently occurs in critically ill and cancer patients, with these specific groups carrying a heightened risk for such invasive fungal infections. Despite this, there is a noticeable lack of attention to IAC in cancer patients within the literature, highlighting a critical gap that requires urgent consideration.

Cutoff Values of Aldosterone and the Aldosterone-Renin Ratio for Predicting Primary Aldosteronism in Patients with Resistant Hypertension: A Real-Life Study.

Primary aldosteronism (PA) is commonly associated with resistant hypertension. Biochemical tests can be clinically useful in the screening and diagnosis of primary aldosteronism. This study aimed to identify the cutoff values of aldosterone levels (A) and the aldosterone-renin ratio (ARR) for an accurate prediction of PA in patients with apparent resistant hypertension in a real-life scenario.

Comparative Analysis of Respiratory and Functional Outcomes in Children Post-Fontan Procedure Versus Healthy Peers.

Studies have shown that respiratory muscle training enhances functional capacity and pulmonary function in Fontan patients. However, diaphragm muscle characteristics in Fontan children have not been fully elucidated.
