Background: Pain drawings (PDs) are used for assessing pain extent as a complementary outcome to other pain measurements, consisting of shading a body chart template to report the location and extent of pain. However, the accuracy and reliability of digital PDs remain controversial due to the heterogeneity of methods used. This study aimed to develop an easy-to-use application for assessing its diagnostic accuracy in comparison with the classic paper-and-pencil method.

Reproducibility of Anterior Scalene Stiffness Measurement with Shear Wave Elastography: An Inter-Examiner Reliability Study.

Purpose: Although previous studies have highlighted the clinical relevance of the anterior scalene muscle (AS) in patients with neck pain or nerve compressive syndromes, evidence reporting the diagnostic accuracy of shear wave elastography (SWE) for assessing the AS stiffness properties is lacking. This study aimed to analyze the SWE inter-examiner reliability for calculating the Young's modulus and shear wave speed of the AS muscle in asymptomatic subjects.

The current study aimed to evaluate the dispersal of solution and microbes (aerosol) in the clinical environment during treatment with Low-frequency contact ultrasonic debridement (LFCUD) with or without suction attachment in patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). We performed 20 treatments in 10 patients divided into two groups to receive the proposed LFCUD modalities. We measured the microbial load of the environment pre-treatment (sample M1), during treatment with each LFCUD modality (sample M2) and post-treatment (sample M3).

Diagnostic Performance of Ultrasonography for Diabetic Foot Osteomyelitis.

This study aims to analyze the potential diagnostic capability of ultrasonography (US) in detecting diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO) in patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). A 1-year prospective study was conducted on 47 consecutive patients with active DFUs and suspicion of DFO at a specialized diabetic foot unit. The following ultrasonographic features were evaluated at baseline: (1) periosteal reaction; (2) periosteal elevation; (3) cortical disruption; (4) sequestrum; and (5) positive power Doppler.

Cryotherapy versus topical nitric-zinc complex solution for the treatment of plantar warts: A randomized controlled trial.

Cryotherapy is commonly regarded as the primary treatment method for plantar warts. A new medical device called nitric-zinc complex solution (NZCS) has also emerged as a potential alternative for wart treatment. The main aim of this study was to analyze and compare the effectiveness of cryotherapy using liquid nitrogen and NZCS in treating plantar warts.

Following the 3 R's principles of animal research-replacement, reduction, and refinement-a high-performance computational framework was produced to generate a platform to perform human cardiac in-silico clinical trials as means to assess the pro-arrhythmic risk after the administrations of one or combination of two potentially arrhythmic drugs. The drugs assessed in this study were hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin. The framework employs electrophysiology simulations on high-resolution three-dimensional, biventricular human heart anatomies including phenotypic variabilities, so as to determine if differential QT-prolongation responds to drugs as observed clinically.
