A 40-year-old male farmer from rural West Bengal, India, presented with fever, headaches, seizure, eschar, and palsy of left cranial nerves VII, VIII, IX, and X as a rare clinical manifestation of scrub typhus. Positive IgM enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay tests in serum and cerebrospinal fluid confirmed the diagnosis, with brain magnetic resonance imaging showing meningoencephalitis findings. Treatment with steroids and doxycycline led to neurological improvement.

Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most prevalent form of dementia, is expected to rise dramatically in incidence due to the global population aging. Traditional diagnostic approaches, such as cerebrospinal fluid analysis and positron emission tomography, are expensive and invasive, limiting their routine clinical use. Recent advances in blood-based biomarkers, including amyloid-beta, phosphorylated tau, and neurofilament light, offer promising non-invasive alternatives for early AD detection and disease monitoring.

Renal transplantation improves the survival and quality of life of patients with end-stage renal disease. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in renal transplant recipients. The bidirectional relationship between renal and heart disease creates a unique clinical scenario that demands a comprehensive and personalized approach.

Background: Parkinson´s disease (PD), the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the world, is characterized by the death or impairment of dopaminergic neurons (DAn) in the substantia nigra pars compacta and dopamine depletion in the striatum. Currently, there is no cure for PD, and treatments only help to reduce the symptoms of the disease, and do not repair or replace the DAn damaged or lost in PD. Cell replacement therapy (CRT) seeks to relieve both pathological and symptomatic PD manifestations and has been shown to have beneficial effects in experimental PD models as well as in PD patients, but an apt cell line to be used in the treatment of PD has yet to be established.

Objective: Acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) is a rare metabolic disorder caused by haploinsufficiency of hepatic porphobilinogen deaminase (PBGD), the third enzyme of the heme biosynthesis. Individuals with AIP experience neurovisceral attacks closely associated with hepatic overproduction of potentially neurotoxic heme precursors.
Design: We replicated AIP in non-human primates (NHPs) through selective knockdown of the hepatic gene and evaluated the safety and therapeutic efficacy of human PBGD (hPBGD) mRNA rescue.

While dysregulation of the splicing process is considered a cancer hallmark, the role of certain splicing factors remains unknown in PCa. This study focuses on characterizing the levels and role of SRSF6 in this disease.

Significance: Hyperspectral imaging sensors have rapidly advanced, aiding in tumor diagnostics for brain tumors. Linescan cameras effectively distinguish between pathological and healthy tissue, whereas snapshot cameras offer a potential alternative to reduce acquisition time.
Aim: Our research compares linescan and snapshot hyperspectral cameras for brain tissues and chromophore identification.

Placing a nasogastric tube (NGT) is a frequent nursing technique in intensive care units. The gold standard for its correct positioning is the chest X-ray due to its high sensitivity, but it represents a radiation source for critically ill patients. Our study aims to analyze whether the ultrasound performed by an intensive care nurse is a valid method to verify the NGT's correct positioning and to evaluate the degree of interobserver agreement between this nurse and an intensive care physician in the NGT visualization using ultrasound.
