For molecular architectures based on dynamic covalent chemistry (DCvC), strict preorganization is a paradigmatic concept and the generally accepted strategy for their rational design. This results in the creation of highly rigid building blocks which are expected to fulfill the ideal geometry of the assembly, coming at a price that small geometric mismatches result in unpredicted and/or unproductive reaction outcomes. In this study, we show that feet of a tripodal platform have a great influence on the assembly of tetrahedral organic cages based on boronate ester formation.

Estrogens play a pivotal role in the development of estrogen-dependent breast cancer and other hormone-dependent disorders. A common strategy to overcome the pathological effects of estrogens is the use of aromatase inhibitors (AIs), which bind to the enzyme and prevent the union with the natural substrate, decreasing the amount of estrogens produced. Several AIs have been developed, including inhibitors with a steroidal backbone and a nitrogen heterocycle in their structure.

The exploitation of mid- and large-sized herbivores (ungulates) was central to hominin subsistence across Late Pleistocene Europe. Reconstructing the paleoecology of prey-taxa is key to better understanding procurement strategies, decisions and behaviors, and the isotope analysis of faunal bones and teeth found at archaeological sites represent a powerful means of accessing information about past faunal behaviors. These isotope zooarchaeological approaches also have a near-unique ability to reveal environmental conditions contemporary to the human activities that produced these remains.

Dinoflagellate-derived polyketides are typically large molecules (>1000 Da) with complex structures, potent bioactivities, and high toxicities. Their discovery suffers three major bottlenecks: insufficient bioavailability, low-yield cultivation of producer organisms, and production of multiple highly related analogues by a single strain. Consequently, the biotechnological production of therapeutics or toxicological standards of dinoflagellate-derived polyketides is also hampered.

We describe the synthesis, characterization and catalytic properties of a series of hybrid materials composed of inorganic plasmonic mono- and bimetallic nanoparticles supported on organic bio-based hydrogel beads. The bimetallic materials showed a localized surface plasmon resonance in the visible region, with a maximum light absorption correlated to the metal composition of the alloyed systems. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed a total water content near to 90 % w/w, which was in good agreement with the free-volume calculated from μCT scan reconstruction of lyophilized samples.

Testing Neanderthal behavioural hypotheses requires a spatial-temporal resolution to the level of a human single occupation episode. Yet, most of the behavioural data on Neanderthals has been obtained from coarsely dated, time-averaged contexts affected by the archaeological palimpsest effect and a diversity of postdepositional processes. This implies that time-resolved Neanderthal behaviour remains largely unknown.
