This systematic review and meta-analysis focused on the effectiveness of biomaterials integrated with specific microRNAs (miRNAs) for bone fracture repair treatment. We conducted a comprehensive search of the PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases, identifying 42 relevant papers up to March 2022. Hydrogel-based scaffolds were the most commonly used, incorporating miRNAs like miR-26a, miR-21, and miR-222, with miR-26a being the most prevalent.

Salirasib, or farnesylthiosalicylic acid (FTS), is a salicylic acid derivative with demonstrated antineoplastic activity. While designed as a competitor of the substrate S-farnesyl cysteine on Ras, it is a potent competitive inhibitor of isoprenylcysteine carboxymethyl transferase. In this study, the antiproliferative activity on six different solid tumor cell lines was evaluated with a series of lipophilic thioether modified salirasib analogues, including those with or without a 1,2,3-triazole linker.

In this work, an innovative green strategy has been developed for the analysis of twenty-seven endocrine disruptors, including bisphenols, alkylphenols and alkylphenol ethoxylates, phthalic acid esters and one adipate in tropical beverages. For this purpose, nine natural hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents based on the terpenoids camphor, thymol and menthol at different molar ratios were investigated for the first time as extractants for the liquid-liquid microextraction of the target analytes from coconut waters and Aloe Vera drinks. A mixture of camphor:thymol at molar ratio 1:2 (n/n) was selected as extraction solvent.

In this work, an evaluation of the occurrence of fifteen phthalates, four metabolites and one adipate in different groundwater, seawater and wastewater samples has been carried out due to their relevance on human health as they act as endocrine disruptors. For this purpose, a sustainable, fast and easy-handling vortex-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction method using a natural hydrophobic deep eutectic solvent based on menthol and carvacrol as extraction agent, combined with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry technique, has been developed and applied for the first time. An optimization was performed to evaluate four important factors affecting the extraction performance, and an analytical validation was carried out in terms of matrix effect, linearity, extraction efficiency, and sensitivity.

Departamento de Química Física, Facultad de Química y de Farmacia, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Macul, Santiago 7820436, Chile.

The search to deliver added value to industrialized biobased materials, such as cellulose derivatives, is a relevant aspect in the scientific, technological and innovation fields at present. To address these aspects, films of cellulose acetate (CA) and a perylene derivative (Pr) were fabricated using a solution-casting method with two different compositions. Consequently, these samples were exposed to dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent vapors so that its influence on the optical, wettability, and topographical properties of the films could be examined.

Unlabelled: Different types of plant tissues and resin can account for the wax lipids found in sedimentary contexts and archaeological samples. Consequently, there is increasing research to characterize the fatty acid carbon isotope ratios of different plant anatomical parts and their plant exudates (resin). With the aim to explore isotopic differences between plant tissues, state of the fine organic matter, effect of thermal degradation, and to identify plant residues we measured the δC values of short-chain fatty acids (δC and δC) in: i) dead and fresh (collected and immediately dried) pine needles and branches () and pine resin from laboratory-controlled heating experiments and ii) sediment and charred pine tissue samples from a wild pine forest fire.

Among neglected tropical diseases, leishmaniasis is one of the leading causes, not only of deaths but also of disability-adjusted life years. This disease, caused by protozoan parasites of the genus triggers different clinical manifestations, with cutaneous, mucocutaneous, and visceral forms. As existing treatments for this parasitosis are not sufficiently effective or safe for the patient, in this work, different sesquiterpenes isolated from the red alga have been studied for this purpose.

Bioplastics aim to substitute conventional plastics in most applications, a critical one being the collection of organic wastes for composting or anaerobic degradation. The anaerobic biodegradability of six commercial bags composed of PBAT or PLA/PBAT blends and certified as compostable [1] was studied using H NMR and ATR-FTIR techniques. This study aims to elucidate if commercial bioplastic bags are biodegradable under conventional conditions found in anaerobic digestates.

The involvement of carbonic anhydrases (CAs) in a myriad of biological events makes the development of new inhibitors of these metalloenzymes a hot topic in current Medicinal Chemistry. In particular, CA IX and XII are membrane-bound enzymes, responsible for tumour survival and chemoresistance. Herein, a bicyclic carbohydrate-based hydrophilic tail (imidazolidine-2-thione) has been appended to a CA-targeting pharmacophore (arylsulfonamide, coumarin) with the aim of studying the influence of the conformational restriction of the tail on the CA inhibition.

Fluoro-labelled sp-iminoglycolipids with immunomodulatory properties.

Department of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Sevilla, C/ Profesor García González 1, 41012, Sevilla, Spain.

The unique electronic properties of the fluorine atom make its strategic incorporation into a bioactive compound a very useful tool in the design of drugs with optimized pharmacological properties. In the field of the carbohydrates, its selective installation at C2 position has proven particularly interesting, some 2-deoxy-2-fluorosugar derivatives being currently in the market. We have now transferred this feature into immunoregulatory glycolipid mimetics that contain a sp-iminosugar moiety, namely sp-iminoglycolipids (sp-IGLs).

A novel dual functional and visual rhodamine ethylenediamine bis(triazolyl silsesquioxane) (RBS) chemosensor was successfully synthesized using "click" chemistry. The results have unambiguously demonstrated that RBS can act in fluorescent and colorimetric sensing of Cu and Zn by their respective coordination with triazole structures and, more importantly, it has also been found that triazole-amide of RBS could turn on chelation-enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) of Cu. Remarkably, the addition of Cu triggered an enhanced fluorescent emission by 63.

Macroalgae have been recently described as a potential ingredient for aquafeeds, exerting several physiological benefits. Grass carp () is a freshwater species, which has been the major fish species produced in the world in the last years. In order to determine the potential use of macroalgal wracks in fish feeding, juveniles were fed with an extruded commercial diet (CD) or the CD supplemented with 7% of a wind dried-powder (1 mm) from either a multispecific macroalgal wrack (CD + MU7) or a monospecific macroalgal wrack (CD + MO7) obtained from Gran Canaria island (Spain) coasts.

Most of the currently available cytotoxic agents for tackling cancer are devoid of selectivity, thus causing severe side-effects. This situation stimulated us to develop new antiproliferative agents with enhanced affinity towards tumour cells. We focused our attention on novel chalcogen-containing compounds (thiosemicarbazones, disulfides, selenoureas, thio- and selenocyanates), and particularly on selenium derivatives, as it has been documented that this kind of compounds might act as prodrugs releasing selenium-based reactive species on tumour cells.

Biostimulants are an interesting strategy to increase crop tolerance to water deficits, and there is an extensive bibliography on them. However, most of them need to be treated continuously to increase protection throughout the growth cycle. In this context, we chose menadione sodium bisulfite, whose protective effect against water deficit has been previously demonstrated but only for a short period of time.
