Low weight at birth may be due to intrauterine growth restriction or premature birth. Preterm birth is more common in low- and middle-income countries: 60% of preterm birth occur in sub-Saharan African or South Asian countries. However, in some higher-income countries, preterm birth rates appear to be increasing in relation to a reduction in the lower threshold of fetal viability.

The main objective was to estimate the prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) among patients with COVID-19, to explore associated factors; and to describe clinical evolution of hospitalized patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted, which included adults confirmed with COVID-19 between 03/12/2020 and 10/15/2020, at Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires. From 6009 people with COVID-19, 408 had previous diagnosis of DM, yielding a prevalence of 6% (95%CI 6-7), higher prevalence was associated with age (12% in = 60 years and 3% in < 60 years; p = 0.

Departamento de Ciencias de la Salud, Universidad Nacional de La Matanza, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Centro Cochrane Asociado, Departamento de Investigación, Instituto Universitario Hospital Italiano, Buenos Aires, Argentina. ORCID: 0000-0003-0411-899X.

The currently abundant bibliography on healthcare can make the search process an exhausting and frustrating experience. For this reason, it is essential to learn the basic concepts of research question formulation, information sources, and search strategies to make this process more efficient and user-friendly. The search strategy is an iterative process that allows the incorporation of tools and terms in the strategy design to optimize evidence retrieval.

Background: Up to 26% of patients with early-stage cervical cancer experience relapse after primary surgery. However, little is known about which factors influence prognosis following disease recurrence. Therefore, our aims were to determine post-recurrence disease-specific survival (PR-DSS) and to identify respective prognostic factors for PR-DSS.

Background: Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an X-linked recessive disorder characterised by progressive muscle weakness beginning in early childhood. Respiratory failure and weak cough develop in all patients as a consequence of muscle weakness leading to a risk of atelectasis, pneumonia, or the need for ventilatory support. There is no curative treatment for DMD.

Performance of the cervical shortening for prediction of spontaneous preterm birth in uncomplicated twins.

J Matern Fetal Neonatal Med

December 2022

Fetal Medicine Unit, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires, Instituto Universitario Hospital Italiano, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Objective: There is a lack of consensus about the management of twins with significant cervical length (CL) shortening, especially if CL is above 25 mm. Therefore, it is important to define "abnormal" CL change over time, and to compare the performance of different strategies. The aim of this study was twofold, to describe the performance of the cervical shortening and that of an integrated strategy that includes both the cervical shortening and a fixed CL cutoff <25 mm in any measurement as predictor of spontaneous PTB (sPTB) < 34 weeks in uncomplicated twin pregnancies.
