The idea supporting the investigation of the current manuscript was to develop customized filters for air conditioners with different pore percentages and geometry with the additional advantage of presenting antibacterial performance. The development of photoresponsive ferroelastics, which couple light-induced macroscopic mechanical and microscopic domain properties, represents a frontier in materials science with profound implications for advanced functional applications. In this study, we report the rational design and synthesis of two new organic-inorganic hybrid ferroelastic crystals, (MA)(MeN)[Fe(CN)(NO)] (MA = methylammonium) () and (MA)(MeNOH)[Fe(CN)(NO)] (), using a dual-organic molecular design strategy that exploits hydrogen-bonding interactions for tailoring ferroelastic properties. Specifically, exhibits a two-step phase transition at 138 and 242 K, while the introduction of a hydroxyl group in stabilizes its ferroelastic phase to a significantly higher temperature, achieving a phase transition at 328 K, 86 K above that of .

Background: In proton radiotherapy, the steep dose deposition profile near the end of the proton's track, the Bragg peak, ensures a more conformed deposition of dose to the tumor region when compared with conventional radiotherapy while reducing the probability of normal tissue complications. However, uncertainties, as in the proton range, patient geometry, and positioning pose challenges to the precise and secure delivery of the treatment plan (TP). In vivo range determination and dose distribution are pivotal for mitigation of uncertainties, opening the possibility to reduce uncertainty margins and for adaptation of the TP.

Polypropylene (PP) disposable face masks (DFMs) are essential for limiting airborne infectious diseases. This study examines the behavior of DFMs under three scenarios: (i) exposure to the natural environment, (ii) simulated high-energy aquatic environments through an abrasion test, and (iii) incorporation into cement-based mortars. In the natural weathering experiment, after 117 days, the DFMs exhibited photodegradation, resulting in chemical alterations in carbonyl and hydroxyl groups.

Single-crystalline nanoparticles play an increasingly important role in a wide variety of fields including pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, catalysts for fuel cells, energy materials, as well as environmental detection and monitoring. Yet, the deformation mechanisms of very small nanoparticles are still poorly understood, in particular the role played by single dislocations and their interaction with surfaces.
