Background: The role of age in the short- and long-term prognosis of takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is controversial. The aim of the present study was to evaluate age-related differences and prognostic implications among patients with TTS.
Methods And Results: In total, 2492 consecutive patients with TTS enrolled in an international registry were stratified into 4 groups (<45, 45-64, 65-74, and ≥75 years).
Background Long-term outcomes of ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction in patients with diabetes have been barely investigated. The objective of this analysis from the EXAMINATION-EXTEND (10-Years Follow-Up of the EXAMINATION trial) trial was to compare 10-year outcomes of patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction with and without diabetes. Methods and Results Of the study population, 258 patients had diabetes and 1240 did not.

Background No study has evaluated the impact of the additional manipulation demanded by multiple resheathing (MR) in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement with repositionable self-expanding valves. Methods and Results This study included a real-world, multicenter registry involving 16 centers from Canada, Germany, Latin America, and Spain. All consecutive patients who underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement with the Evolut R, Evolut PRO, and Portico valves were included.

Background There is a paucity of outcome data on patients who are morbidly obese (MO) undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement. We aimed to determine their periprocedural and midterm outcomes and investigate the impact of obesity phenotype. Methods and Results Consecutive patients who are MO (body mass index, ≥40 kg/m, or ≥35 kg/m with obesity-related comorbidities; n=910) with severe aortic stenosis who underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement in 18 tertiary hospitals were compared with a nonobese cohort (body mass index, 18.

This study compared short- and long-term outcomes between TTS based on different triggers, focusing on various physical triggering events. Methods and Results We analyzed patients with a definitive TTS diagnosis recruited for the Spanish National Registry on TTS (RETAKO [Registry on Takotsubo Syndrome]).

The main objective of biomedical journals is to publish high-quality scientific studies and to ensure a widespread dissemination of their contents, Journals compete for the best science generated in their respective disciplines and, therefore, they critically scrutinize the scientific quality of all submitted papers in order to identify and select only those thar merit publication. The "peer review" system represents the cornerstone of the scientific process. It provides a critical appraisal, by external independent experts, of the studies under consideration.

The objective of this study was to determine the influence of the admission hemoglobin level and the post-admission fall in hemoglobin level on short-term prognosis during hospitalization.
Methods: This retrospective study involved 542 highrisk ACS patients who were admitted during 2005.
Ventricular fibrillation is the principal immediate cause of sudden cardiac death. Yet, in contrast to other arrhythmias, ventricular fibrillation is considered to be inaccessible to pharmacologic therapy because of its characteristic and apparently never-ending disarray of electrical waves that seem to propagate chaotically throughout the ventricles. Its prevention has historically been focused on the suppression of ventricular ectopy, with the idea of eliminating potential triggers of fibrillation, which from a clinical standpoint has proven to be detrimental.

In this paper we review the importance of different imaging techniques in the diagnosis of patients with acute aortic syndrome.

The adverse effects observed include the appearance of a maculopapulous, pruritic, painless, cutaneous rash. We present the case of a patient who developed leucocytoclastic vasculitis associated with the administration of ticlopidine.
