Background: Rotator cuff tears can lead to debilitating shoulder function and impairment. Rotator cuff repair aims to eliminate pain and improve function with increased shoulder strength and range of motion. This study evaluated the differences between all-arthroscopic (AA) and mini-open (MO) repair procedures for rotator cuff tendon tears regarding clinical and functional outcomes.

Background: Acute type B aortic dissection (TBAD) is a rare disease that is likely under-diagnosed in the UK. As a progressive, dynamic clinical entity, many patients initially diagnosed with uncomplicated TBAD deteriorate, developing end-organ malperfusion and aortic rupture (complicated TBAD). An evaluation of the binary approach to the diagnosis and categorisation of TBAD is needed.

Aim To study the prevalence of programmed death-1 receptor (PD-1) and programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) positive cases in non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) and their association with other clinicopathological parameters in a tertiary care setting in North India. Material and methods One hundred histologically proven NSCLC cases having sufficient tumor material from July 2016 to July 2018 were examined, and the prevalence of PD-1 and PD-L1 positivity in NSCLC was studied. In addition, H&E-stained sections were reviewed, and 100 consecutive cases meeting study criteria were identified as study cases.

Background: The frozen elephant trunk (FET) technique for total arch replacement (TAR) is widely used for repair of aortic arch dissections and aneurysms. Despite its widespread adoption, there are no international or regional guidelines for the sizing of FET prostheses in TAR. We seek to highlight the heterogeneity thereof and pave the way for evidence-based guidelines to advise FET prosthesis sizing in TAR.

Here we present a case profile of a 28-year-old gentleman, who presented with right lower quadrant abdominal pain and mass, which was clinically diagnosed as acute appendicular inflammatory mass. Later with laboratory reports and radiological imaging, he was confirmed to have acute pancreatitis, and actually the peripancreatic fluid collection has tracked down into the right iliac fossa and pelvis to present similar to Valentino syndrome.

This study aimed to demonstrate the technique of handling the anomalous vertebral artery in congenital atlantoaxial instability. The vertebral artery course can be variable in congenital atlantoaxial instability, especially if there is assimilation of atlas. The surgical technique to stabilize the atlantoaxial joint should ensure the patency and safety of the vertebral artery and prevents devastating stroke.

Background: Acute pancreatitis is a disease with variable outcome; the course of the disease can be modified by early aggressive management in patients with severe pancreatitis. Easily calculable pancreatic scores and investigations can help to triage these patients. We aimed to determine the role of bedside index for severity in acute pancreatitis (BISAP), harmless acute pancreatitis score (HAPS), and systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) scores on day of admission and C-reactive protein (CRP) at 48 h for predicting the presence of pancreatic fluid collection (PFC) and necrosis on CT scans done at 72 h.

Fatty acid-induced cytotoxicity is believed to recapitulate lipotoxicity seen in obese type-2 diabetes, and, thus, contribute to beta cell loss in the disease. These studies were initiated to determine whether the Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling pathway was involved in palmitate-induced beta cell death. Treatment of INS-1 beta cells with palmitate enhanced interaction between TLR and myeloid differentiation factor88 (MyD88).
