Background: Chronic prostatitis has been supposed to be associated with preneoplastic lesions and cancer development. The objective of this study was to examine how chronic inflammation results in a prostatic microenvironment and gene mutation in C57BL/6 mice.

Methods: Immune and bacterial prostatitis mouse models were created through abdominal subcutaneous injection of rat prostate extract protein immunization (EAP group) or transurethral instillation of uropathogenic E.

Background: Previous studies have revealed that the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs2188380 was identified as a novel locus of gout. Interestingly, gout resulting from high serum uric acid (SUA) was also identified to be associated with the risk of breast cancer (BC). We hypothesized that maybe there was a relationship between rs2188380 and the risk of BC.

Center for Genomic and Personalized Medicine, Guangxi Medical University, Nanning 530021, Guangxi, China; Institute of Urology and Nephrology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University, Nanning 530021, Guangxi, China. Electronic address:

Background: Current biomarkers such as fetal fibronectin and cervical length are accurate predictors of spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB) in women with clinically suspected preterm risk; however, these are not effective for predicting the risk of sPTB in asymptomatic women. Therefore, we performed this study with the objective of determining whether the combinations of specific serum cytokines could accurately predict the sPTB risk in asymptomatic women.

Methods: We conducted a nested case-control study with 129 incident sPTB cases and 258 individually matched controls who participated in an ongoing birth cohort study.

Electronic address:

Background: Low testosterone concentrations have been suggested as a risk factor for hypertension, but their contribution to the development of hypertension is not well studied. We carried out a cohort study based on the results of an earlier cross-sectional investigation. We established the association between testosterone concentrations and hypertension.

Aim: This study aimed to explore the influence of maternal folate and vitamin B12 (B12) status during pregnancy on the incidence of low birthweight (LBW) infants.

Methods: A total of 6203 eligible women registered in seven hospitals in southern China, and 230 cases with singleton live births and 382 controls were matched for further analyses. The concentrations of serum folate and B12 were detected with chemiluminescence microparticle immunoassay on ARCHITECT i2000-1.

Electronic address:

Background: Low birth weight infants (LBW) are at risk of chronic diseases in later life due to the disorder of energy metabolism during pregnancy. Osteocalcin (OC) has been identified as a hormone that regulate energy metabolism. However, few studies have researched on the associations between maternal serum OC levels and low birth weight infants.

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the association between central obesity and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) among men in southern China, and test the hypothesis that central obesity measured by the waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) is a predictor of the severity of LUTS.

Methods: In all, 4303 men from the Fangchenggang Area Male Healthy and Examination Survey (FAMHES) were included in this study. LUTS were assessed by the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), whereas central obesity was evaluated by the WHR.

In a similar manner to erectile dysfunction (ED), osteocalcin (OC) is also said to be associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD); however, the effect of OC in ED is unclear. This study was conducted based on the Fangchenggang Area Male Health and Examination Survey (FAMHES) project that ran between September and December 2009. ED was evaluated using the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the connection between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and urinary stones in a male population from Guangxi, China, to determine if NAFLD increases the risk of urinary calculi.
  • Conducted as a cross-sectional survey with 3719 male participants, the research found that 26.5% were diagnosed with NAFLD, and 6.9% of all participants had urinary calculi, with NAFLD patients showing a higher rate (8.4%).
  • The analysis identified various factors, including NAFLD, age, body mass index, and certain blood levels, as independent risk factors for urinary calculi, suggesting a possible link between NAFLD and an

Nephrolithiasis is a common urological disease with high prevalence and recurrence rates. Characterizing gut microbiome profiles of nephrolithiasis patients may provide valuable insights and potential biomarkers for the disease. Therefore, we explored the relation between gut microbiome and nephrolithiasis using 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene sequencing.

View Article and Find Full Text PDF

The gut microbiome in humans is associated with geography, diet, lifestyles and so on, but its relationship with some isolated populations is not clear. We used the 16sRNA technique to sequence the fecal microbiome in the Chinese isolated Yao population and compared it with the major minority Zhuang and the major ethnic Han populations living in the same rural area. Information about diet frequency and health status and routine serum measurements were collected.

Background And Study Aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide with highest incidence in Asia and Africa. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), a class of non-coding single stranded RNA, which not only post transcriptionally regulate gene expression but also respond to signaling molecules to affect cell functions such as Wnt/β-catenin signaling specifically in HCC. The goal of this study is to investigate the crosstalk between Wnt/β-catenin signaling proteins and microRNAs expression in HCC patients.

Chronic prostatitis (CP) is a complex disease. Fragmentary evidence suggests that factors such as infection and autoimmunity might be associated with CP. To further elucidate potential risk factors, the current study utilized the Fangchenggang Area Male Health and Examination Survey (FAMHES) project; where 22 inflammatory/immune markers, hormone markers, tumor-related proteins, and nutrition-related variables were investigated.

Introduction: Cardiovascular complications are the most important cause of mortality in patients with ESKD, such as coronary artery disease, left ventricular hypertrophy, heart failure and arrhythmia. Other well-known risk factors, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension and dyslipidemia are prevalent in ESKD, yet they are not sufficient enough to explain the high prevalence of cardiovascular mortality, hence searching for other hidden risk factors to explain this high prevalence is of an utmost importance. The aim of this study was to identify the exact mechanisms connecting HCV infection, chronic liver disease, and atherogenesis.
