The multiparent advanced generation intercross (MAGIC) population is characterized with great potentials in power and resolution of quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping, but single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-based GWAS does not fully reach its potential. In this study, a MAGIC population of 1021 lines was developed from four Xian and four Geng varieties from five subgroups of rice. A total of 44 000 genes showed functional polymorphisms among eight parents, including frameshift variations or premature stop codon variations, which provides the potential to map almost all genes of the MAGIC population.

Ethylene Insensitive 2 (EIN2) is an integral membrane protein that regulates ethylene signaling towards plant development and immunity by release of its carboxy-terminal functional portion (EIN2C) into the nucleus. The present study elucidates that the nuclear trafficking of EIN2C is induced by importin β1, which triggers the phloem-based defense (PBD) against aphid infestations in Arabidopsis. In plants, IMPβ1 interacts with EIN2C to facilitate EIN2C trafficking into the nucleus, either by ethylene treatment or by green peach aphid infestation, to confer EIN2-dependent PBD responses, which, in turn, impede the phloem-feeding activity and massive infestation by the aphid.

A new strategy was developed to produce cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) and films from raw elephant grass using deep eutectic solvents and a recyclable spent coffee-derived solid acid (SC-SOH) catalyst with assistance of ultrasonic disintegration and a suction filtration film forming method. The effects of a solid acid and reused solid acid were comprehensively studied by comparing with catalyst-free conditions and using sulfuric acid as the catalyst. The CNF fibers obtained from this novel SC-SOH catalyst method showed the longest fiber length.

Although metal tolerance proteins (MTPs), which belong to the cation diffusion facilitator (CDF) family, have been demonstrated to play critical roles in manganese (Mn) tolerance in plants, the characteristics and functions of GmMTP members in the response of soybean () to Mn toxicity have not been documented.
