Aims: To isolate polyethylene terephthalate (PET) degrading bacteria and elucidate the underlying mechanisms of PET biodegradation through biochemical and genome analysis.
Methods And Results: A Rhodococcus rhodochrous IITR131 was found to degrade PET. Strain IITR131 genome revealed metabolic versatility of the bacterium and had the ability to form biofilm on PET sheet resulting in the cracks, abrasions, and degradation.
Purpose: Cytisine is the active ingredient in preparations used for smoking cessation. Its popularity is attributed to its low cost, efficacy, and low incidence of adverse effects. Additionally, its easy over-the-counter availability is also significant.

Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) analogs, often referred to as new psychoactive substances, are synthesized to mimic controlled substances while evading drug regulations. This study emphasizes the challenges of identifying these compounds, particularly their isomeric forms. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and UV spectroscopy were employed to analyze 13 LSD analogs.

ʟ-Carnosine is a dipeptide with notable antioxidant, antiglycation, metal chelating, and neuroprotective properties. Despite its many biological roles, applying ʟ-carnosine as a capping agent in nanoparticle synthesis has remained underexplored. This study explores the potential of ʟ-carnosine in synthesizing tunable plasmonic silver nanoparticles (ʟ-car-AgNPs).

A consortium of five distinct bacterial strains was evaluated for their ability to biodegrade multiple polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sewage sludge under microcosm studies. The presence of PAHs was determined from the sludge samples collected during pre- and post-monsoon seasons from three different wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Among the sixteen PAHs found, the lowest concentration detected was 1.

Globally, sewage sludge is produced in large quantities as a by-product in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), which have organic and inorganic contaminants. Due to its high caloric value, this sludge is used as manure in agricultural fields. For this, regular sludge monitoring is necessary to understand the potential risks and limit the release of toxic substances into the environment.

SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells have been extensively used as an in vitro model system in a diverse range of studies involving neurodevelopment, neurotoxicity, neurodegeneration, and neuronal ageing. Both naïve and differentiated phenotypes of SH-SY5Y cells are utilized to model human neurons under in vitro conditions. The process of differentiation causes extensive remodeling of neuronal cells at multiple omic levels, including the epigenome and proteome.

Heavy metal ions and organic pollutants, such as 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), pose significant environmental and human health threats. Addressing these challenges necessitates using advanced nanoparticle-based systems capable of efficient detection and degradation. However, conventional approaches utilizing strong capping agents like cetrimonium bromide (CTAB) on nanoparticles lead to limitations due to the rigid nature of CTAB.

Methaqualone, introduced in the 1960s as a sedative-hypnotic alternative to barbiturates, was withdrawn from the market due to its side effects and growing recreational use. Despite this, interest in methaqualone and its analogs remains high, raising concerns about potential abuse in the future. An ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography method coupled with triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS) was developed to determine nine methaqualone-related compounds simultaneously.

Rivers are critical ecosystems that support biodiversity and local livelihoods. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of metal contamination and anthropogenic activities on microbial and phage community dynamics within major Indian river ecosystems, focusing on the Ganga, Narmada, Cauvery, and Gomti rivers -using metagenomic techniques, Biolog, and ICP-MS analysis. Significant variations in microbial communities were observed both within each river and across the four systems, influenced by ecological factors like geography and hydrology, as well as anthropogenic pressures.

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a dynamic organelle that is a site of the synthesis of proteins and lipids, contributing to the regulation of proteostasis, lipid metabolism, redox balance, and calcium storage/-dependent signaling events. The disruption of ER homeostasis due to the accumulation of misfolded proteins in the ER causes ER stress which activates the unfolded protein response (UPR) system through the activation of IRE1, PERK, and ATF6. Activation of UPR is observed in various cancers and therefore, its association with process of carcinogenesis has been of importance.

Human exposure to mycotoxins through food involve a mixture of compounds, which can be harmful to human health. The Fusarium fungal species are known to produce zearalenone (ZEN), a non-steroidal estrogenic mycotoxin, and its metabolite alpha-zearalenol (α-ZEL), both of which possess endocrine-disruptive properties. Given their potential harm to human health through food exposure, investigating the combined effects of ZEN and α-ZEL becomes crucial.
