Gastric cancer (GC) poses global challenges due to its difficult early diagnosis and drug resistance, necessitating the identification of early detection markers and understanding of oncogenic pathways for effective GC therapy. Endothelial cell-specific molecule 1 (ESM1), a secreted glycoprotein, is elevated in various cancers, but its role in GC remains controversial. In our study, ESM1 was elevated in GC tissues, and its concentration was correlated with progression and poorer patient prognosis in independent cohorts.

Summary Answer: The specific exposure period from ET to the serum hCG test was identified as a critical exposure window as exposure to sulfur dioxide (SO) or a combination of air pollutants was associated with a decreased likelihood of clinical pregnancy.
What Is Known Already: Exposure to a single pollutant may impact pregnancy outcomes in women undergoing ART. However, in daily life, individuals often encounter mixed pollution, and limited research exists on the effects of mixed air pollutants and the specific exposure periods.

This study presents the first successful generation of polyclonal antibodies (pAbs) and oligonucleotide aptamers specifically targeting fusaric acid (FA). Utilizing these pAbs and aptamers, three highly sensitive and specific assays were developed for the detection of FA in cereals with limits of detection (LOD) ranging from 5 to 50 ng/g: an antibody-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), an aptamer-based enzyme-linked aptamer-sorbent assay (ELASA), and a hybrid enzyme-linked aptamer-antibody sandwich assay (ELAAA). The recovery rates of FA in spiked cereal samples ranged from 87 % to 112 % across all assays.

Citrinin (CTN) is a mycotoxin commonly present in various foods and feeds worldwide, as well as dietary supplements in Asian countries, but the risks and cellular mechanisms associated with its cardiotoxicity remains unclear. In this study, RNA-seq analysis of CTN-treated H9c2 cardiac cells demonstrated significant perturbations in pathways related to microtubule cytoskeleton and mitochondrial network organization. CTN disrupted microtubule polymerization and downregulated mRNA levels of microtubule-assembling genes, Map2 and Tpx2, in H9c2 cardiac cells.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers are contaminated in wastewater from various primary sources, such as washing textile waters. PET fibers in the environment can be degraded into microfibers because of weathering processes such as sunlight, physical wear, and heat. Although recent studies reported adverse effects of PET microfibers on aquatic organisms, the lack of information on their toxicity and mode of action hampers the risk assessment of PET microfibers.

Benzene occurs naturally and is widely applied in the production process of petrochemical products. It is mainly exposed through the respiratory tract and dermal and metabolized in the liver, leading to systemic health effects, and 1,2,4-trihydroxybenzene (THB) is a benzene metabolite used as a hair dye ingredient in some countries. In an effort to identify a toxic mechanism of THB, we first analyzed the hair of consumers who used a shampoo containing THB, and contrary to our expectations, THB was not persistent in the hair.
