Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore the link between ischemic or nonspecific ECG signs of metabolic changes in the heart and poor cardiovascular outcomes in individuals under 45 over a 7-year period.
  • Data was collected from 1,363 young adults in Novosibirsk through a health survey and various biochemical tests, along with resting ECG assessments to identify heart conditions.
  • Results indicated a significant association between ECG signs of ischemia and adverse cardiovascular events, with a higher risk recorded for those showing such changes, highlighting the importance of ECG monitoring in young people.

Background: The problem of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM 2) is relevant, especially when there is a combination of predisposing factors, such as female gender, history of UTI episodes, and therapy with sodium glucose cotransporter type 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors, and the choice of effective and safe means could cause some difficulties, including ina terms of the burden of antibiotic resistance.

Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the phytoproduct Canephron N for the prevention of exacerbations of recurrent cystitis and the effect on metabolic parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes taking SGLT-2 inhibitors.

Materials And Methods: Prospective, randomized, open, parallel group study in 60 women.

Background & Aims: The QUASAR Phase 2b Induction Study evaluated the efficacy and safety of guselkumab, an interleukin-23p19 subunit antagonist, in patients with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis (UC) with prior inadequate response and/or intolerance to corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, and/or advanced therapy.

Methods: In this double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-ranging, induction study, patients were randomized (1:1:1) to receive intravenous guselkumab 200 or 400 mg or placebo at weeks 0/4/8. The primary endpoint was clinical response (compared with baseline, modified Mayo score decrease ≥30% and ≥2 points, rectal bleeding subscore ≥1-point decrease or subscore of 0/1) at week 12.

Purpose: To support family caregivers of persons post-stroke adequately from the start and to develop self-management interventions, we aim to gain a better understanding of family caregivers experiences at the time of acute care and therefore achieve a better understanding of how they manage their new situation.

Methods And Materials: We chose a qualitative descriptive methodology using individual semi-structured interviews with eleven family caregivers of persons post-stroke. We conducted interviews retrospectively, between 2 and 10 months post-stroke, and analysed transcripts using thematic analysis.

The quantitative content of HIF-1α- and HIF-2α-immunopositive brain neurons in Wistar rats was studied 1, 15, and 30 days after modeling of myocardial infarction. In rats of the control group, the immunohistochemical markers HIF-1α and HIF-2α in the prefrontal cortex of the brain were determined in few pale-colored neurons and capillaries. One day after myocardial infarction simulation, the number of HIF-1α neurons increased, and on day 15 it reached the maximum level: the concentration of immunopositive neurons and capillaries increased by 24.

The systematization of literature data on the use of β-adrenoblockers in patients with heart failure and concomitant thyroid pathology was carried out, and the results of our own study were presented. It has been suggested that the final chapter in the history of the use of β-adrenoblockers in patients with heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction and thyroid pathology has not yet been written. Further studies are needed, including pharmacogenetic ones.

Endothelial dysfunction is one of the most important markers of the risk of cardiovascular complications. This study is aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of imaging photoplethysmography to assess microcirculation response to local heating in order to develop a novel technology for assessing endothelial function. As a measure of vasodilation, we used the relative dynamics of the pulsatile component of the photoplethysmographic waveform, which was assessed in a large area of the outer surface of the middle third of the subject's forearm.

Over the past two decades, the world has witnessed severe acute respiratory syndrome CoV (SARS-CoV), an underlying serious diseases, with a high rate of mortality in patients with comorbidities. Taking into account the clinical features of pulmonary edema, septic shock, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, it seems that the severe course of COVID-19 can manifest itself in the body as a sympathetic storm and, possibly, can underlie many of the pathological processes that occur with COVID-19. It is the regulation of the RAAS by the adrenergic system may be crucially important in the course of COVID-19.
