A new approach to the determination of oxygen nonstoichiometry (δ) of MIEC oxides as a continuous function of pO2 at high temperatures was developed. The description of the model allowing one to distinguish the contribution of oxygen released from the samples to the partial pressure of oxygen at the outlet of the continuous-flow fixed-bed reactor after the stepwise change of the oxygen partial pressure of inlet gas from 0.2 to 10(-5) atm and to calculate the dependence of δ on pO2 is presented.

The occurrence of a first-order reversible phase transition in glycine-glutaric acid co-crystals at 220-230 K has been confirmed by three different techniques - single-crystal X-ray diffraction, polarized Raman spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. The most interesting feature of this phase transition is that every second glutaric acid molecule changes its conformation, and this fact results in the space-group symmetry change from P2(1)/c to P1. The topology of the hydrogen-bonded motifs remains almost the same and hydrogen bonds do not switch to other atoms, although the hydrogen bond lengths do change and some of the bonds become inequivalent.

Information on the effect of pressure on hydrogen bonds, which could be derived from single-crystal X-ray diffraction at a laboratory source and polarized Raman spectroscopy, has been compared. L-Serine and DL-serine were selected for this case study. The role of hydrogen bonds in pressure-induced phase transitions in the first system and in the structural stability of the second one are discussed.

A single-crystal X-ray diffraction study of the effect of cooling down to 100 K on the β-form of chlorpropamide, 4-chloro-N-(propylaminocarbonyl)benzenesulfonamide, has revealed reversible phase transitions at ∼257 K and between 150 and 125 K: β (Pbcn, Z' = 1) ⇔ β(II) (P2/c, Z' = 2) ⇔ β(III) (P2/n, a' = 2a, Z' = 4); the sequence corresponds to cooling. Despite changes in the space group and number of symmetry-independent molecules, the volume per molecule changes continuously in the temperature range 100-300 K. The phase transition at ∼257 K is accompanied by non-merohedral twinning, which is preserved on further cooling and through the second phase transition, but the original single crystal does not crack.

A new method of obtaining biologically active mannanoligosaccharides is proposed. It involves mechanical activation of the enzymatic hydrolysis of components forming the supramolecular structure of the cell wall. Processes that take place during mechanical treatment and enzymatic hydrolysis of yeast biomass and lead to an increase in the availability of mannanoligosaccharides of the yeast cell walls are investigated.
