The use of Ta/TaN barrier bilayer systems in electronic applications has been ubiquitous over the last decade. Alternative materials such as Co-W or Ru-W alloys have gathered interest as possible replacements due to their conjugation of favourable electrical properties and barrier layer efficiency at reduced thicknesses while enabling seedless Cu electroplating. The microstructure, morphology, and electrical properties of Cu films directly electrodeposited onto Co-W or Ru-W are important to assess, concomitant with their ability to withstand the electroplating baths/conditions.

Indoor air pollution has obtained more attention in a moment where "stay at home" is a maximum repeated for the entire world. It is urgent to know the sources of pollutants indoors, to improve the indoor air quality. This study presents some results obtained for twelve incense products, used indoors, at home, and in temples, but also in spa centers or yoga gymnasiums, where the respiratory intensity is high, and the consequences on health could be more severe.

Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones, begins during embryonic development and continues throughout life. Sprouting angiogenesis is a well-defined process, being mainly influenced by vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The aim of this work was to study the value of the main allergen Asp n 3 of as a molecular marker of allergenicity and pathogenicity with the potential to be used in the identification of as a contaminant and cause of spoilage of Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used for the amplification of Asp n 3 gene. Two pairs of primers were designed: one for the amplification of the entire sequence and another one for the amplification of the most conserved region of this peroxisomal protein. The presence of was demonstrated by the early detection of the allergenic protein Asp n 3 coding gene, which could be considered a species-specific marker.

Caesarean section is one of the most common surgeries worldwide, even though there is no evidence supporting maternal and perinatal long-term benefits. The strengthening effect of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in metal matrix nanocomposites occurs due to several mechanisms that act simultaneously. The possible strengthening mechanisms for metal matrix nanocomposites reinforced with CNTs consist of: (1) load transfer, (2) grain refinement and texture strengthening, (3) second phase strengthening, and (4) strain hardening. The main focus of this work is to identify the strengthening mechanisms that play a role in the case of the Ni-CNT nanocomposite produced by powder metallurgy.

Background And Objective: The attainment of a methodology to simulate the hemodynamic in patient-specific cerebral vessels with aneurysms is still a challenge. The novelty of this work is focused on the effect of coil embolization in a realistic cerebral aneurysm, according to the vessel wall thickness and aneurysm thickness, through transient FSI simulations.
Methods: The quality of the mesh for simulations was checked with a specific mesh convergence study; and the numerical methodology was validated using numerical research data of the literature.

This work proposes a novel tissue-scale mechanobiological model of bone remodeling to study bone's adaptation to distinct loading conditions. The devised algorithm describes the mechanosensitivity of bone and its impact on bone cells' functioning through distinct signaling factors. In this study, remodeling is mechanically ruled by variations of the strain energy density (SED) of bone, which is determined by performing a linear elastostatic analysis combined with the finite element method.

Public health authorities have been paramount in guaranteeing that adequate fresh air ventilation is promoted in classrooms to avoid SARS-CoV-2 transmission in educational environments. In this work it was aimed to assess ventilation conditions (carbon dioxide, CO) and suspended particulate matter (PM, PM and UFP) levels in 19 classrooms - including preschool, primary and secondary education - located in the metropolitan area of Ciudad Real, Central-Southern Spain, during the school's reopening (from September 30th until October 27th, 2020) after about 7 months of lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic. The classrooms that presented the worst indoor environmental conditions, according to the highest peak of concentration obtained, were particularly explored to identify the possible influencing factors and respective opportunities for improvement.

Organ-on-a-chip (OoaC) are microfluidic devices capable of growing living tissue and replicate the intricate microenvironments of human organs in vitro, being heralded as having the potential to revolutionize biological research and healthcare by providing unprecedented control over fluid flow, relevant tissue to volume ratio, compatibility with high-resolution content screening and a reduced footprint. Finite element modelling is proven to be an efficient approach to simulate the microenvironments of OoaC devices, and may be used to study the existing correlations between geometry and hydrodynamics, towards developing devices of greater accuracy. The present work aims to refine a steady-state gradient generator for the development of a more relevant human liver model.

Bone remodeling is a highly complex process, in which bone cells interact and regulate bone's apparent density as a response to several external and internal stimuli. In this work, this process is numerically described using a novel 2D biomechanical model. Some of the new features in this model are (i) the mathematical parameters used to determine bone's apparent density and cellular density; (ii) an automatic boundary recognition step to spatially control bone remodeling and (iii) an approach to mimic the mechanical transduction to osteoclasts and osteoblasts.

Exposure to air pollution in early years can exacerbate the risk of noncommunicable diseases throughout childhood and the entire life course. This study aimed to assess temperature, relative humidity (RH), carbon dioxide (CO) and monoxide (CO), particulate matter (PM, PM), ultrafine particles, nitrogen dioxide (NO), ozone (O), formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and volatile organic compounds (VOC) levels in the two rooms where infant twins spend more time at home (30 dwellings, Northern Portugal). Findings showed that, in general, the worst indoor environmental quality (IEQ) settings were found in bedrooms.

The joining of alumina (AlO) to γ-TiAl and Ti6Al4V alloys, using Ag-Cu sputter-coated Ti brazing filler foil, was investigated. Brazing experiments were performed at 980 °C for 30 min in vacuum. Background: One of the major causes of pelvic organ prolapse is pelvic muscle injury sustained during a vaginal delivery. The most common site of this injury is where the pubovisceral muscle takes origin from the pubic bone. We hypothesized that it is possible for low-cycle material fatigue to occur at the origin of the pubovisceral muscle under the large repetitive loads associated with pushing during the second stage of a difficult labor.
