Effects of Drought Stress on Peramine and Lolitrem B in -Endophyte-Infected Perennial Ryegrass.

Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) infected by Epichloë endophytes contains alkaloids that are responsible for toxicosis in many countries. Drought may greatly affect the alkaloids contents of symbionts. The E+ perennial ryegrass was grown in pots with different soil moisture conditions (15%, 30%, 45% and 60% relative saturation moisture content, RSMC) for four months in a greenhouse of Lanzhou University, and then, the aboveground tissues were collected.

Influence of Smartphone-Based Digital Extension Service on Farmers' Sustainable Agricultural Technology Adoption in China.

The literature about how Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) influence farmers' adoption of sustainable agricultural technology is emerging, studies regarding the effects of particular smartphone-based digital extension services on farmers' sustainable agricultural technology practices are limited. This study investigates the relationship between a digital extension service ("Zhe' yang' shi" WeChat application) and the adoption of soil testing and formula fertilization, a precision fertilization technology. A household choice model is constructed to explain the impact of the application.

Do cooperatives exclude small-scale farming households? Evidence from Fuchuan County, Guangxi Province.

The exclusion, or otherwise, of small-scale farmers by cooperatives determines whether they can be well engaged in the grand strategy of agricultural modernization. By identifying the exclusion pattern of cooperatives and using the field research data on farmers in Fuchuan, Guangxi, this study finds that cooperatives tend to screen their members via both explicit and implicit exclusion and that small-scale farmers are more likely to be excluded. The theoretical analysis conducted in this study reveals that excluding small-scale farmers is a rational choice made by cooperatives to pursue efficiency in the context of organizational form variation.

Does the Application of ICTs Improve the Efficiency of Agricultural Carbon Reduction? Evidence from Broadband Adoption in Rural China.

Based on the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis, this paper examines whether rural broadband adoption affects agricultural carbon reduction efficiency (ACRE), using panel data from 30 Chinese provinces from 2011 to 2019. This paper achieves a measurement of ACRE by taking the carbon sink of agricultural as one of the desired outputs and using a Slacks-Based Measure (SBM) model and the global Malmquist-Luenberger (GML) index. The results show that: (1) Rural broadband adoption has a positive effect on ACRE.

What influences Bangladeshi Boro rice farmers' adoption decisions of recommended fertilizer doses: A case study on Dinajpur district.

Due to the combined effect of biotic and abiotic constraints, rising population pressure, and inelastic demand in the crop and horticulture sector, Bangladesh has had to adopt heavily subsidized and intensified fertilizer policies to enhance crop productivity, achieve and sustain self-sufficiency in food production, and food security provision. Although the initiative has played a vital role in boosting production, it has also invigorated the unbalanced amount of fertilizer application practices raising questions about maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem services while feeding the nation's population. Further research in this area must thus be applied to monitor and improve this sector.

The effect of top managers' human capital on SME productivity: the mediating role of innovation.

Using a sample of 309 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) from Tanzania and applying partial least square structural equation modeling, the study analyses the different effects of managers' general and specific human capital on SME innovation and productivity. The results demonstrate that top managers with higher education qualification place greater importance on non-technological innovation in comparison with their less educated peers. They further show that managers with more years of experience in the sector place higher importance on technological innovation than their less experienced counterparts.

Oregano Essential Oils Promote Rumen Digestive Ability by Modulating Epithelial Development and Microbiota Composition in Beef Cattle.

This study aimed to explore the effects of oregano essential oils (OEO) on the rumen digestive ability using multi-omics sequencing techniques. Twenty-seven castrated Pingliang red cattle were randomly separated into three groups (3 cattle/pen; = 9) and fed on a daily basal diet supplemented with 0 (Con group), 130 mg (L group), and 260 mg (H group) OEO. The finishing trial lasted for 390 days, and all cattle were slaughtered to collect rumen tissue and content samples.

Understanding labour market disruptions and job losses amidst COVID-19.

This paper examines the impact of COVID-19 pandemic-induced lockdown on labour market in India. By using the data of centre for monitoring Indian economy (CMIE)'s consumer pyramids household survey (CPHS), the paper analyses the magnitude and nature of job losses and consequent unprecedented rise in unemployment across gender, social group, occupations during April-June 2020. It finds widespread job losses in labour market with some sections of the society, including small traders, self-employed, migrant workers, daily wage labourers, youth and women being worst affected, who mostly work in the informal sector of the Indian economy.

Effects of Endophyte and Host Ecotype on Physiology of under Different Soil Moisture Conditions.

This study explored the effects of the   endophyte on growth, photosynthesis, ionic content (K and Ca), phytohormones (abscisic acid-ABA, cytokinin-CTK, indolE-3-acetic acid-IAA, and gibberellin-GA), and elements-C, N, P (in the shoot and root) in two ecotypes of (ecotypes 111 and 141) under different soil water conditions (35% and 65% relative saturation moisture content (RSMC)). The results showed that 35% RSMC inhibited the plants' growth, and compared with 65% RSMC, there was a significant ( < 0.05) decrease in the growth and photosynthesis indices, the contents of CTK and GA, Ca concentration, and the contents of C, N, and P (in both the aboveground and underground parts) under 35% RSMC.

Consumers' Food Safety Risk Communication on Social Media Following the Suan Tang Zi Accident: An Extended Protection Motivation Theory Perspective.

There are many hidden safety hazards in homemade food due to an absence of food preparation and storage knowledge, and this has led to many food safety incidents. The purpose of this study was to explore the influencing factors of consumers' food risk communication behavior on social media in northeast China, using the protection motivation theory. We integrate the Suan Tang Zi food poisoning accident and the protection motivation theory to develop a conceptual model to predict food safety risk communication on social media.

Do dietary patterns and morbidities have a relationship with primary infertility among women? A study from NFHS-4 (2015-16), India.

This study assessed the rate of primary infertility and its associated factors among 402,807 currently married women aged 20-49 years in India using National Family Health Survey-4 data collected in 2015-2016. Dietary patterns and selected morbidities were included as independent variables, and socioeconomic variables were considered as covariates. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were done to estimate the prevalence of primary infertility and assess its association with the selected variables, respectively.

Combination of High Zn Density and Low Phytic Acid for Improving Zn Bioavailability in Rice (Oryza stavia L.) Grain.

Background: Zn deficiency is one of the leading public health problems in the world. Staple food crop, such as rice, cannot provide enough Zn to meet the daily dietary requirement because Zn in grain would chelate with phytic acid, which resulted in low Zn bioavailability. Breeding new rice varieties with high Zn bioavailability will be an effective, economic and sustainable strategy to alleviate human Zn deficiency.
