Results of long-term prospective follow-up of patients with early stages of mitral and aortic valvulitis and primary chronic septic endocarditic are presented. Clinical diagnostics of the diseases is described and the key role is assigned to pathognomic (absolute) clinical symptoms. The tendency to progressive fibrosis of endocardial structures with subsequent gradual development of valve dysfunction and stenosis (especially for the mitral valve) is revealed.

We analyzed ultrastruciture of the cell populations in the prostate gland in chronic nonbacterial prostatitis in a chemical industry worker. It was shown that ultrastructural reorganization of the epithelium consisted in reduction of the secretory compartment of the cytoplasm and dystrophic-degenerative changes in cell organelles. Endothelial cells of the capillaries showed signs of significant degeneration and low intensity of micropinocytosis.

PT/Y mice used for studies of the effects of mutagens are characterized by the absence of spontaneous tumors of the liver, but often develop these tumors in response to chronic oaminoazotoluene treatment. The level of glucocorticoid induction of adaptive hepatic enzyme tyrosine aminotransferase decreases by more than 70% 24 h after acute injection of o-aminoazotoluene to these animals. These mice can serve as a model for studies of the relationship between the effect of carcinogens on the regulation of activity of adaptive hepatic enzymes and their capacity to induce the development of liver tumors.

We found no deviations from normalcy in the content of chemical elements (K, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Se, Br, Rb, and Sr) in the lungs of rats with mild alimentary obesity, but revealed redistribution of correlations between the elements indicating impaired metabolism in this organ. Zinc supplementation had no effect on the body weight and content of chemical elements (including zinc) in the lung tissue in rats fed high fat diet, but led to significant changes in the correlations between the elements. Bromine, rubidium, and strontium are actively involved in interelement interactions in the lung tissue.

In experiments on rats, atherogenic diet led to hypercholesterolemia, while addition of verapamil to the diet led to the development of hypertriglyceridemia in these animals. Hepatorenal cell populations were studied in patients with HCV and HBV infection markers and renal dysfunction. Pronounced mosaicism of ultrastructural changes in hepatocytes was associated with polymorphic cytopathic effects caused by RNA-genome hepatitis C virus and DNA-genome hepatitis B virus. The destructive component of the tubular compartment predominated in renal biopsy specimens from patients, with subsequent degeneration of the tubular epithelium associated with progressive interstitial fi brosis.

The type and intensity of remodeling (structural reorganization) of the myocardium in Wistar rats were studied under conditions of experimental chronic dyslipidemia and verapamil treatment. Long (64 days) atherogenic diet caused dyslipidemia and led to reduction of the heart percent weight. The cytopathic effect of dyslipidemia manifested in more intense lytic injuries of cardiomyocytes, development of diffuse and small focal cardiosclerosis under conditions of manifest circulatory disorders.

Ethyl pyruvate, an inhibitor of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase, slightly suppressed the growth of transplantable Ehrlich tumor in mice and significantly potentiated the therapeutic effect of cyclophosphamide. Another inhibitor amidoxime produced a similar effect. However, both ethyl pyruvate and amidoxime significantly reduced the effect of cycloplatam therapy.

The structural characteristics of the prostate and the blood flow in the organ were studied in chemical plant workers suffering from chronic prostatitis. The prostate echostructure was characterized by vast zones of fibrosis and calcinosis, the hemodynamic ultrasonic parameters were low. Degenerative changes in the acinar structures and stromal fibrosis predominated in the biopsy specimens, these shifts were the most pronounced in the peripheral and transitory zones.

Structural reorganization of the bladder mucosa in chronic cystitis and its correction by ozone therapy were studied. Immunohistochemical and PCR analysis of the structure of lipid-containing hepatocytes and replication of chronic hepatitis C viral particles revealed no positive correlation between the presence of HCV RNA in blood specimens, number of infected hepatocytes (by expression of HCV NS3Ag) with clinical biochemical parameters and intensity of structural changes in biopsy specimens. Small-vesicular subcytolemmal lipid infiltration of hepatocytes was detected, presumably associated with hepatitis C virus replication phase. Characteristic subcytolemmal location of the lipid droplets can reflect their involvement in virus transport from the cell and indicate a virus-induced nature of lipid metabolism disorders.

The expression of mRNA of matricellular proteins (osteopontin, and lumican), apolipoproteins E and A-IV, and microsomal triglyceride transfer protein, and the intensity of fibroplastic processes were studied in the myocardium of rats during experimental chronic hypercholesterolemia. Effects of zinc on the content of chemical elements in the liver of rats during early stages of obesity.

In rats with slight alimentary obesity, the content of chemical elements in the liver did not differ from normal, but the correlations between these elements were changed, which attested to metabolic disorders. Additional zinc dose administered to rats receiving lipid-rich rations did not affect animal body weights and content of chemical elements (including zinc) in the liver, but corrected correlations between the elements. Active contribution of strontium, bromine, and rubidium to interactions between the elements in the liver necessitates studies of their role in biological processes, specifically, in initiation and development of obesity.

The levels of CD19 (+) and CD20(+) microvesicles were estimated in the blood of patients with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia and indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma by flow cytometry method. It was found that the number of B cell microvesicles is several times higher in patients than in volunteers. The level of CD20 (+) microvesicles directly correlated with the number of CD20(+) lymphocytes in patients with chronic lymphoproliferative diseases.

Indolamine-2,3-dioxygenase, a tryptophan-catabolizing enzyme, creates local conditions suppressing immune lymphocytes. Expression of this enzyme in tumors protects them from immune mechanisms, while its inhibition partially reduces tumor immunoresistance. This effect is attained by multiple subcutaneous or intraperitoneal injections of ethyl pyruvate, an indolamine-2,3-dioxygenase inhibitor.

We studied the peculiarities of lipid spectrum of the blood and structural reorganization of the myocardium in experimental hypercholesterolemia with and without hypothyroidism. It was found that alimentary hypercholesterolemia accompanied by elevated total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglyceride concentrations led to a decrease in body weight, heart weight, number of cardiomyocytes in the heart and induced pronounced lytic changes in cardiomyocytes, circulation disorders (sludge syndrome, echinocytosis of erythrocytes, lymphostasis), diffuse fibrosis of the stroma, and appearance of foam cells among diffuse mononuclear infiltrate cells. The combination of hypercholesterolemia with hypothyroid status caused more pronounced changes in the lipid spectrum and atherogenic index and more pronounced lytic and necrobiotic changes in cardiomyocytes.
