This study proposes a hierarchical automated methodology for detecting brain tumors in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), focusing on preprocessing images to improve quality and eliminate artifacts or noise. A modified Extreme Learning Machine is then used to diagnose brain tumors that are integrated with the Modified Sailfish optimizer to enhance its performance. The Modified Sailfish optimizer is a metaheuristic algorithm known for efficiently navigating optimization landscapes and enhancing convergence speed.

Despite welfare state expansion in liberal democracies during the 20th century, health inequalities between socio-economic groups persist. Understanding individuals' lived experiences can inform policy for reducing unequal health outcomes in these lives. We build on Fundamental Cause Theory (FCT), which posits that low socio-economic status is the fundamental cause of health problems in (later) life.

In caring for clients with combined problems, various professionals are encouraged to work together in new ways. Collaboration is often fluid, and professionals are expected to seek other professionals and organizations to solve complex problems. This type of collaboration is not institutionalized; it may therefore be hard to develop routines compared to fixed teams.

Student-teacher gender congruence is suggested to be related to increased student performance, but little is known about the contexts in which these effects occur. Based on literature on gender stereotypes this study hypothesizes different effects of student-teacher gender congruence for male and female students across school subjects and in different educational contexts. Using administrative data of secondary schools in The Netherlands ( > 50,000), this study examined to what extent student-teacher gender congruence is associated with male and female students' performance in the subjects math, physics, Dutch language, and French language.

  • The study aimed to evaluate the validity of the Arabic translations of the Vanderbilt ADHD Diagnostic Scale (VADRS-A) through analyses involving parents and teachers in Saudi Arabia.
  • It included a sample of 1,812 participants, assessing children aged 5 to 12, with parents rating the Arabic Vanderbilt ADHD Diagnostic Parent Rating Scale (VADPRS-A) and teachers using the Arabic Vanderbilt ADHD Diagnostic Teacher Rating Scale (VADTRS-A).
  • Results showed a strong consistency and correlation among the factors of both scales, with high percentages of variance explained (59% for VADPRS-A and 69.20% for VADTRS-A), indicating their effectiveness in diagnosing ADHD.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the potential causal relationship between four air pollutants (PM2.5, PM10, PM2.5 absorbance, and nitrogen oxides) and various neurological diseases, alongside examining their impact on 1325 brain structures.
  • Utilizing Mendelian randomization methods, the research highlights significant associations between air pollution and conditions like stroke, Alzheimer's, epilepsy, and the potential mediating role of gut microbiota, particularly the phylum Lentisphaerae in relation to multiple sclerosis.
  • The findings indicate that certain air pollutants maintained significant correlations with specific neurological disorders even after adjusting for other variables, emphasizing the complexity of the interactions between environmental factors and brain health.

The objective of this study is to evaluate users' perceptions and preferences on the design features of the COVID-19 prevention promotion icon from the perspective of users' aesthetic and perceptual needs. In this study, 120 officially published icons from 24 countries and regions were collected from online platforms for ranking tests, and then the top-ranked icons were subjectively rated by the semantic differential method. By evaluating the quality of users' perceptions of multiple semantic dimensions of icons, we extracted the perceptual semantic words that users valued as the main icon design features.

As a strategic resource, big data has become a key force affecting carbon emission reduction in agriculture. However, its impacts remain controversial, and relevant empirical evidence remains to be explored. Based on quasi-natural experimental analysis, this study explored the impact and mechanism of the construction of the National Big Data Comprehensive Pilot Zone (NBDCPZ) on agricultural carbon emissions (ACE) in China and adopted a difference-in-difference (DID) model using China's provincial panel data from 2003 to 2020.

Family Incivility has emerged as an important construct that may impact the employee's mental wellbeing and thus affect various organizational outcomes including financial and market related outcomes. The construct however is nascent stage of scholarly research. Thus through a systematic literature review we organise the scholarship till date on the theories, contexts and methods used to explore the construct We also propose a unique framework for employee family incivility and its impact on workplace that identifies and maps the antecedents, drivers and outcomes of family incivility.

Animal Lives Affected by Meat Consumption Trends in the G20 Countries.

Animals (Basel)

June 2024

Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML), Leiden University, 2333 CC Leiden, The Netherlands.

Trends in dietary habits have far-reaching implications, but their impact on animals remains insufficiently explored, as many people continue to dissociate meat from individual animal lives. This research study quantifies the temporal development of the number of animal lives affected by meat consumption within the G20 countries between 1961 and 2020 and forecasts for 2030. Production (including slaughter) and historical and projected food balance data were analyzed to explore these trends.

Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) are promising sources of clean and renewable energy, but their performance and efficiency depend on an accurate modeling and identification of their system parameters. However, existing methods for PEMFC modeling suffer from drawbacks, such as slow convergence, high computational cost, and low accuracy. To address these challenges, this research work proposes an enhanced approach that combines a modified version of the SqueezeNet model, a deep learning architecture that reduces the number of parameters and computations, and a new optimization algorithm called the Modified Transient Search Optimization (MTSO) Algorithm, which improves the exploration and exploitation abilities of the search process.
