Nitric oxide (NO) is an important signaling molecule that plays a key role in maintaining vascular homeostasis. Dinitrosyl iron complexes (DNICs) generating NO are widely used to treat cardiovascular diseases. However, the involvement of DNICs in the metabolic processes of the cell, their protective properties in doxorubicin-induced toxicity remain to be clarified.

The new approach for modeling kinetics of complex spatial self-propagating traveling-wave reactions is proposed. This approach is intended to replace well-known reaction-diffusion equations and self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) as methods for mathematical modeling of spatial propagation of chemical reactions. A chemical kinetic model for frontal polymerization of metal-containing monomers under this approach is suggested.

Accurate determination of the spin Hamiltonian parameters in transition-metal complexes with large zero-field splitting (ZFS) is an actual challenge in studying magnetic and spectroscopic properties of high-spin transition metal complexes. Recent critical papers have convincingly shown that previous determinations of these parameters, based only on the magnetic data, have low accuracy and reliability. A combination of X-band electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and SQUID magnetometry seems to be a more convincing and accurate approach.

We synthesized conjugates of tacrine with 1,2,4-thiadiazole derivatives linked by two different spacers, pentylaminopropene (compounds 4) and pentylaminopropane (compounds 5), as potential drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The conjugates effectively inhibited cholinesterases with a predominant effect on butyrylcholinesterase (BChE). They were also effective at displacing propidium from the peripheral anionic site (PAS) of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), suggesting that they could block AChE-induced β-amyloid aggregation.

The peculiarities of a Newtonian fluid flow structure in microchannels with a striped superhydrophobic lower wall texture are studied by means of numerical modeling. In the Cassie-Baxter state, an oblique orientation of such a texture induces helicoidal streamlines with micro spirals. Such a flow structure favors the enhancement of fluid mixing efficiency, which can be quantified using the total root-mean-square deviation of streamlines from the microchannel axis.

Polymer electrolytes have been obtained by using Nepem-117 membranes in a Li form intercalated by polar aprotic solvents, such as dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and dimethylacetamide (DMA), and solvent mixtures, such as ethylene carbonate-propylene carbonate (EC-PC), EC-DMA, EC-PC-DMA, and EC-PC-DMA-tetrahydrofuran. The obtained electrolytes have been characterized by IR impedance and Li pulsed field gradient NMR spectroscopy. Ion mobility was observed to increase with higher degrees of solvation of the membranes.

The effects of deoxyhemoglobin (Hb) and albumin on the NO-donor activity of the anionic tetranitrosyl iron complex with thiosulfate ligands (1) were studied for the first time. It was shown that Hb significantly stabilizes complex 1; in its presence, NO generation from the complex proceeds at a noticeably slower rate. A similar effect is observed when complex 1 is bound to albumin, in which case complex 1 decomposes 27 times slower than in the absence of albumin in the solution.

We studied membranotropic properties of NO donor 2-nitroxysuccinate 3-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-ethylpyridine and its structural analog succinate 3-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-ethylpyridine (Mexidol). It was shown that the compounds under study are incorporated into modeled membranes and form long-living complexes with pyrene in the region of fatty acid tails of phospholipids. Luminol-amplified chemiluminescence analysis showed that both compounds exhibited antiradical activity and in a concentration of 0.

Several extensions to the Standard Model of particle physics, including light dark matter candidates and unification theories predict deviations from Newton's law of gravitation. For macroscopic distances, the inverse-square law of gravitation is well confirmed by astrophysical observations and laboratory experiments. At micrometer and shorter length scales, however, even the state-of-the-art constraints on deviations from gravitational interaction, whether provided by neutron scattering or precise measurements of forces between macroscopic bodies, are currently many orders of magnitude larger than gravity itself.

The Renner vibronic-coupling problem in Π electronic states of linear molecules is analyzed with rigorous and systematic inclusion of spin-orbit (SO) coupling. The 8 × 8 Hamiltonian matrix of a Π state in the diabatic electronic representation has been constructed by a Taylor expansion in the bending normal mode up to second order. As previously found for Π states and Π states, SO-induced vibronic-coupling terms that are linear in the bending amplitude exist in addition to the quadratic electrostatic Renner coupling.

A series of compounds with Sc N@I -C in the neutral, monomeric, and dimeric anion states have been prepared in the crystalline form and their molecular structures and optical and magnetic properties have been studied. The neutral Sc N@I -C ⋅3 C H Cl (1) and (Sc N@I -C ) (TPC) ⋅5 C H Cl (2, TPC=triptycene) compounds both crystallized in a high-symmetry trigonal structure. The reduction of Sc N@I -C to the radical anion resulted in dimerization to form diamagnetic singly bonded (Sc N@I -C ) dimers.

Tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) has been established as one the most efficient analytical techniques for probing vibrational states with nanoscale resolution. While TERS may be a source of unique information about chemical structure and interactions, it has a limited use for materials with rough or sticky surfaces. Development of the TERS approach utilizing a non-contact scanning probe microscopy mode can significantly extend the number of applications.
