Background: Frozen shoulder (FS) or adhesive capsulitis is a common shoulder condition characterized by pain, stiffness, and restricted active and passive range of motion. Evidence suggests that trigger points (TrP) may play a role in frozen shoulder, especially in restricting range of motion.

Objective: To determine an association between shoulder girdle muscles TrPs and frozen shoulder.

Effect of neuromuscular taping and transcutaneous electrical stimulation on neuromusculoskeletal impairments in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy: A case-series.

J Bodyw Mov Ther

October 2024

Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Maharishi Markandeshwar (Deemed to Be University), Mullana, Ambala, Haryana, 133207, India. Electronic address:

Introduction: Approximately 60-70% of individuals with diabetes experience varying degrees of damage to their nervous system, resulting in a condition known as diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). DPN usually involves distal body parts and is characterised as distal symmetrical sensorimotor neuropathy which is progressive in nature and follows a "glove and stocking pattern". It has significantly contributed to neuropathic pain, decreased nerve conduction velocity (NCV), impaired proprioception, compromised balance, and postural instability.

Background: In this current modern industrial world, strokes are the major reason for causing disability and death in the adult population. In spite of the various tools available to measure the physical, psychological, and social impact of strokes, the appropriate method in various languages around the world is not available. In that sense adapting the Stroke-Specific Quality of Life Scale (SSQoL) in different languages and cultures is essential to ensure their validity and efficacy across diverse populations.

Background Thyroid surgeries have become so common that they are performed for both benign and malignant conditions of the thyroid. However, hypoparathyroidism and recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) injury may turn out to be a nightmare, complicating the surgical outcome. This study will, therefore, attempt to assess the complications related to different types of thyroid surgeries in order to identify the risk factors involved.

Patellofemoral instability is influenced by morphological factors and associated with compensational alterations in gait pattern. Recent simulation studies investigated the impact of knee morphology on the stability and loading of the patellofemoral joint but neglected the patient-specific gait pattern. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of patient-specific gait pattern on muscle forces and joint loading in individuals with patellofemoral instability.

Competitive athletes are often exposed to extreme physiological loading, resulting in over excessive mechanotransduction during their acute intensive training sessions and competitions. Individual differences in their genetics often affect how they cope with these challenges, as reflected in their high performances. Olympic Medalists are prohibited from providing atypical values in the Hematological Module of the Athlete Biological Passport.

In musculoskeletal pain (MSP), pain duration, disability, and mental health relate to how a person engages in daily activities. The self-reporting questionnaire Activity Patterns Scale (APS) assesses these activity patterns and their subscales: Pacing (Pacing to increase activity levels,Pacing to conserve energy for valued activities,Pacing to reduce pain); Avoidance (Pain avoidance,Activity avoidance); Pacing (Excessive persistence, Task-contingent persistence, Pain-contingent persistence). This investigation translated the APS into German and estimated its internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity.

Aims Of The Study: This prospective study, conducted with patients from the multidisciplinary post-COVID outpatient clinic at the Pulmonary Division of the Cantonal Hospital Winterthur, aimed to investigate changes in patients' main symptoms, elements that aided in coping with the condition and satisfaction with the consulting and therapeutic interventions.

Methods: After obtaining ethical approval, fifty patients were consecutively included in this longitudinal study, which incorporated three survey times post-consultation: t1 (0-7 days), t2 (4-8 weeks) and t3 (4-6 months). The survey comprised standardised questionnaires, including the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, the Post-COVID-19 Functional Status scale and the Chalder Fatigue scale, along with study-specific questions regarding symptoms and reasons for consulting the post-COVID outpatient clinic.

Disruptions in pericyte and endothelial cell communication can compromise the integrity of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), leading to neurovascular dysfunction and the development of neurological disorders. However, the evaluation of microvessel RNAs has been limited to tissue homogenates, with spatial visualization only available for protein targets. The aim of the present study is the development of an innovative microvessel isolation technique that is RNA-friendly for the purpose of coupling with in situ hybridization RNAscope analysis.

Prevalence of Eating Disorders among Competitive Rowers.

Sports (Basel)

September 2024

Institute of Physiotherapy and Sports Science, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pécs, 9700 Szombathely, Hungary.

Article Synopsis
  • There is a lack of research on eating disorders among rowers internationally and no studies in Hungary, particularly in weight-related sports like rowing.
  • A quantitative study in summer 2023 assessed eating disorders among 222 certified competitive rowers using a validated questionnaire, revealing that lightweight rowers had higher scores in perfectionism and interoceptive awareness.
  • The findings indicated that eating disorders in rowers are not more prevalent than in the general population, but emphasize the need for ongoing research and educational efforts due to the inherent risks in weight-related sports.

Backgroud: The main function of the hamstring muscles is to bend the knee joint and support the function of the hip extensors. Their frequent injuries are the result of overload related to, among others, dynamic running or jumping, and inadequate preparation for athletics activities. The asymmetry of the work of individual flexor muscle groups is clearly marked in the case of valgus or varus of the knee joint, i.

Sprint performance is commonly assessed via discrete sprint tests and analyzed through kinematic estimates modeled using a mono-exponential equation, including estimated maximal sprinting speed (MSS), relative acceleration (TAU), maximum acceleration (MAC), and relative propulsive maximal power (PMAX). The acceleration-velocity profile (AVP) provides a simple summary of short sprint performance using two parameters: MSS and MAC, which are useful for simplifying descriptions of sprint performance, comparison between athletes and groups of athletes, and estimating changes in performance over time or due to training intervention. However, discrete testing poses logistical challenges and defines an athlete's AVP exclusively from the performance achieved in an isolated testing environment.

  • There are various surgical options for treating degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS), but current guidelines don't specify which should be prioritized due to past studies lacking in convincing evidence.
  • A systematic review included 43 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with over 5,000 participants, evaluating different surgical interventions, focusing on their impacts on physical function and adverse events.
  • Results showed that endoscopic-assisted laminotomy and laminectomy with Coflex had small effects on physical function in the short term, while longer-term outcomes were varied, with some surgeries linked to fewer adverse effects compared to traditional laminectomy.
