Purpose: To determine the effects of repeated Brazilian jiujitsu (BJJ) matches on neuromuscular fatigue in forearm-flexor and knee-extensor muscles.

Methods: Twelve BJJ athletes (8 men and 4 women) performed a simulated BJJ tournament composed of four 8-minute matches interspersed by 16-minute intervals. Neuromuscular fatigue was assessed via prematch to postmatch(es) reductions in maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC), voluntary activation, and potentiated twitch force (Ptwpot) in the forearm-flexor and knee-extensor muscles.

In this paper, we discuss how artificial intelligence chatbots based on large-scale language models (LLMs) can be used to disseminate information about the benefits of physical exercise for individuals with epilepsy. LLMs have demonstrated the ability to generate increasingly detailed text and allow structured dialogs. These can be useful tools, providing guidance and advice to people with epilepsy on different forms of treatment as well as physical exercise.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is linked to an elevated risk of malnutrition and sarcopenia, contributing to the intricate network of CKD-related metabolic disorders. Adipokines and myokines are markers and effectors of sarcopenia and nutritional status. The aim of this study was to assess whether the adipokine-myokine signature in patients on kidney replacement therapy could help identify malnutrition and sarcopenia.

Lipodystrophy in HIV/AIDS: a comparison between physically active, and inactive HIV-infected vs. uninfected men.

J Sports Med Phys Fitness

November 2024

Laboratory of Physical Activity and Health Promotion, Institute of Physical Education and Sports, Rio de Janeiro State University, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil -

Article Synopsis
  • Exercise training helps reduce trunk fat in men living with HIV (MLHIV), indicating that physical activity can positively influence fat distribution.
  • In a study involving 19 active MLHIV, 19 inactive MLHIV, and 19 HIV-uninfected men, active individuals showed lower trunk fat and fat mass ratios compared to inactive counterparts.
  • The findings suggest that while exercise improves certain fat measurements, total fat percentage and fat mass ratio alone shouldn't be used to assess changes in HIV-related lipodystrophy.

Recent research has exposed a growing body of proof underscoring the importance of microRNAs (miRNAs) and long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in maintaining the physical composition of neurons and influencing cognitive functioning in both standard and atypical circumstances. Extensive research has been conducted on the possible application of miRNAs and lncRNAs as biomarkers for various diseases, with a particular focus on brain disorders, as they possess remarkable durability in cell-free surroundings and can endure repeated freezing and thawing processes. It is intriguing to note that miRNAs and lncRNAs have the ability to function through paracrine mechanisms, thereby playing a role in communication between different organs.
