The virions of plant viruses and their structurally modified particles (SP) represent valuable platforms for recombinant vaccine epitopes and antitumor agents. The possibility of modifying their surface with biological compounds makes them a tool for developing medical biotechnology applications. Here, we applied a new type of SP derived from virions and virus-like particles (VLP) of Alternanthera mosaic virus (AltMV) and well-studied SP from Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV).

Children are at higher risk of atelectasis due to their anatomical and physiological particularities. Several physiotherapy techniques are used to treat atelectasis, but only four studies cite methods in pediatric patients undergoing Invasive Mechanical Ventilation (IMV). The objective of this study was to evaluate the Structured Respiratory Physiotherapy Protocol (SRPP) for airway clearance and lung reexpansion for infants on IMV with atelectasis.

Engineered calcium carbonate (CaCO) particles are extensively used as drug delivery systems due to their availability, biological compatibility, biodegradability, and cost-effective production. The synthesis procedure of CaCO particles, however, suffers from poor reproducibility. Furthermore, reducing the size of CaCO particles to <100 nm requires the use of additives in the reaction, which increases the total reaction time.

A new efficient and versatile one-pot three-component synthesis of substituted pyrrolo[1,2-a]thieno[3,2-e]pyrimidine derivatives has been developed. It is based on a multistep cascade reaction from 2-aminothiophenes and 2-hydroxy-4-oxobut-2-enoic acids, and derivatives of cyanoacetic acid catalyzed by diisopropylethylamine. As a result, novel pyrrolo[1,2-a]thieno[3,2-e]pyrimidine derivatives (21 compounds) were synthesized in a mild reaction conditions with a high yield.

Background: Whole-body metaiodobenzylguanidine ( I-MIBG) scintigraphy is the gold standard method to detect neuroblastoma; however, it depends on radioactive material and is expensive. In contrast, whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (WB-MRI) is affordable in developing countries and has been shown to be effective in the evaluation of solid tumors. This study aimed to compare the sensitivity and specificity of WB-MRI with MIBG in the detection of primary tumors and neuroblastoma metastases.

The International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) launched a program to map all pediatric cancer facilities around the world. After the results in Africa were completed, the strategy for data collection for Latin America was revised to improve the accuracy and avoid duplications. In partnership with SIOP, the Sociedad Latino Americana de Oncología Pediátrica (SLAOP) approached their delegates who provided the contacts for a 10-question survey about their institutional capacities.

Desmoplastic infantile gangliogliomas (DIG) are rare intracranial tumors that predominantly affect children. They are characterized by a mixture of glial and neuronal components interspersed with abundant fibrous stroma and are typically located on the surface of the cerebral hemispheres. In this case report, we present a seven-year-old male child with a late presentation of DIG, which is typically diagnosed between zero and 60 months of age.

Introduction: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumours (IMTs), being an exceptionally rare category of paediatric neoplasms, often contain druggable gene rearrangements involving tyrosine kinases.
Methods And Results: This study presents a large consecutive series of IMTs which were analysed for the presence of translocations by the PCR test for 5'/3'-end ALK, ROS1, RET, NTRK1, NTRK2 and NTRK3 unbalanced expression, variant-specific PCR for 47 common gene fusions and NGS TruSight RNA fusion panel. Kinase gene rearrangements were detected in 71 of 82 (87%) IMTs (ALK: n = 47; ROS1: n = 20; NTRK3: n = 3; PDGFRb: n = 1).

Malignant extracranial germ cell tumors (GCTs) are rare in pediatric patients and are usually extremely sensitive to chemotherapy. Relapsed or refractory tumors, although rare, established the need for second-line therapies, including high-dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell transplantation (HDCT/ASCT). However, there are few data on its use in children with GCTs.

Gene therapy is a fast developing field of medicine with hundreds of ongoing early-stage clinical trials and numerous preclinical studies. Genome editing (GE) now is an increasingly important technology for achieving stable therapeutic effect in gene correction, with hematopoietic cells representing a key target cell population for developing novel treatments for a number of hereditary diseases, infections and cancer. By introducing a double strand break (DSB) in the defined locus of genomic DNA, GE tools allow to knockout the desired gene or to knock-in the therapeutic gene if provided with an appropriate repair template.

Background: Ewing sarcoma (ES) cells exhibit extreme plasticity that contributes to the cell's survival and recurrence. Although multiple studies reveal various signaling pathways mediated by the EWSR1/FLI1 fusion, the specific transcriptional control of tumor cell resistance to doxorubicin is unknown. Understanding the molecular hubs that contribute to this behavior provides a new perspective on valuable therapeutic options against tumor cells.
