Several modifiable lifestyle risk factors have been linked to higher cancer risk in the literature. Determining the proportion and number of cancer cases attributable to these risk factors is pivotal in informing effective cancer prevention and control plans that have the greatest effect on reducing cancer incidence. We aimed to estimate the proportion and number of incident cancer cases that were attributable to modifiable lifestyle risk factors (ie, tobacco smoking, high alcohol consumption, excess body weight, physical inactivity and unhealthy diet) in Switzerland between 2015 and 2019.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a leading cause of death worldwide. Current clinical imaging modalities provide resolution adequate for diagnosis but are unable to provide detail of structural changes in the heart, across length-scales, necessary for understanding underlying pathophysiology of disease. Hierarchical Phase-Contrast Tomography (HiP-CT), using new (4) generation synchrotron sources, potentially overcomes this limitation, allowing micron resolution imaging of intact adult organs with unprecedented detail.

Tumor cell fraction (TCF) estimation is a common clinical task with well-established large interobserver variability. It thus provides an ideal test bed to evaluate potential impacts of employing a tumor cell fraction computer-aided diagnostic (TCFCAD) tool to support pathologists' evaluation. During a National Slide Seminar event, pathologists (n = 69) were asked to visually estimate TCF in 10 regions of interest (ROIs) from hematoxylin and eosin colorectal cancer images intentionally curated for diverse tissue compositions, cellularity, and stain intensities.

Nodal T-follicular helper cell lymphoma, angioimmunoblastic-type (AITL), is characterized by constitutional symptoms, advanced-stage disease, and generalized lymphadenopathy. A genetic hallmark of this lymphoma is the frequent occurrence of the mutation G17V in neoplastic cells, which is observed in around 60% of patients. Because is involved in both T-cell receptor downstream signalling and cell migration, we hypothesized that the characteristic presentation of AITL could be the result of enhanced tumor cell migration.

Background: When surgical axillary staging reveals residual metastatic deposits in breast cancer (BC) patients who had received neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT), axillary lymphonodectomy is indicated. In this study, we investigate whether it is reasonable to perform intraoperative frozen section (FS) of the removed sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) in cases where NACT had been administered in patients who had a clinically negative nodal status at the time of diagnosis.
Patients And Methods: We analyzed data from 101 BCE patients with 103 carcinomas who were diagnosed between 2014 and 2021 and met the above-mentioned criteria.

Nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) is a Hodgkin lymphoma expressing functional B-cell receptors (BCR). Recently, we described a dual stimulation model of IgD+ lymphocyte-predominant cells by Moraxella catarrhalis antigen RpoC and its superantigen MID/hag, associated with extralong CDR3 and HLA-DRB1*04 or HLADRB1* 07 haplotype. The aim of the present study was to extend the antigen screening to further bacteria and viruses.

Transplantation of solid organs can be life-saving in patients with end-stage organ failure, however, graft rejection remains a major challenge. In this study, by pre-conditioning with interleukin-2 (IL-2)/anti-IL-2 antibody complex treatment biased toward IL-2 receptor α, we achieved acceptance of fully mismatched orthotopic lung allografts that remained morphologically and functionally intact for more than 90 days in immunocompetent mice. These allografts are tolerated by the actions of forkhead box p3 (Foxp3) regulatory T (Treg) cells that home to the lung allografts.

Imaging across different scales is essential for understanding healthy organ morphology and pathophysiological changes. The macro- and microscale three-dimensional morphology of large samples, including intact human organs, is possible with X-ray microtomography (using laboratory or synchrotron sources). Preparation of large samples for high-resolution imaging, however, is challenging due to limitations such as sample shrinkage, insufficient contrast, movement of the sample and bubble formation during mounting or scanning.

Aim Of The Study: In histologically non-inflamed but clinically suspect appendices, changes described as neurogenic appendicopathy with fibrous or fibrolipomatous obliterations can be observed. The purpose of this study was to analyse the incidence of these entities of the appendix in a longitudinal patient cohort.
Patients And Methods: This is a retrospective single-centre study of 457 patients undergoing laparoscopic appendectomy from 2017 to 2020 due to suspected acute appendicitis.

G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) has been found to be an important key regulator in the homeostasis of sex hormone-dependent human cells. The aim of this study was to compare the expression of GPER, estrogen receptor alpha (ER-α), estrogen receptor beta (ER-β) and progesterone receptor (PR) in adenomyosis, eutopic endometrium from the same patients, and eutopic endometrium from patients without adenomyosis. Immunohistochemical analysis of GPER, ER-α, ER-β and PR was performed to assess the expression levels on samples of hysterectomies using tissue microarrays.
