Alterations in kinase genes such as NTRK1/2/3, RET, and BRAF underlie infantile fibrosarcoma (IFS), the emerging entity 'NTRK-rearranged spindle cell neoplasms' included in the latest WHO classification, and a growing set of tumors with overlapping clinical and pathological features. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive clinicopathological and molecular analysis of 22 cases of IFS and other kinase gene-altered spindle cell neoplasms affecting both pediatric and adult patients. Follow-up periods for 16 patients ranged in length from 10 to 130 months (mean 38 months).

Purpose: Immunogenic cell death plays an important role in anticancer treatment because it combines cell death with appearance of damage associated molecular patterns that have the potential to activate anticancer immunity. Effects of damage associated molecular patterns induced by aminolevulinic acid-based photodynamic therapy were studied mainly on dendritic cells. They have not been deeply studied on macrophages that constitute the essential component of the tumor microenvironment.

The Torricelli-Bernoulli sign is a rare radiologic sign seen on computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which helps direct the diagnosis of a gastrointestinal tumor. It indicates the presence of non-dependent air trapped within a necrotic ulcer located in a gastrointestinal tumor; sometimes, a vertical stream of bubbles emanating from the opening of the ulcer is present. The term Torricelli-Bernoulli sign first appeared in the literature in 1999, referring to the homonymous physical theorems.

Objective: This short communication demonstrates how short tandem repeat genotyping can identify the origin of gestational choriocarcinoma.
Materials And Methods: The origin of gestational choriocarcinoma in our three cases was determined using the short tandem repeats genotyping technique, which involved quantitative fluorescent PCR and fragmentation analysis.
Results: In Case 1 despite no medical history of molar pregnancy, DNA analysis indicated that the choriocarcinoma originated from a homozygous complete hydatidiform mole.

Advancements in cutting-edge molecular profiling techniques, such as next-generation sequencing and bioinformatic analytic tools, have allowed researchers to examine tumour biology in detail and stratify patients based on factors linked with clinical outcome and response to therapy. This manuscript highlights the most relevant prognostic and predictive biomarkers in kidney, bladder, prostate and testicular cancers with recognised impact in clinical practice. In bladder and prostate cancer, new genetic acquisitions concerning the biology of tumours have modified the therapeutic scenario and led to the approval of target directed therapies, increasing the quality of patient care.

Background: The incidence of pilonidal sinus shows a steadily rising tendency, especially in the patient age group of up to 40 years. Treatment of this condition is often protracted involving lengthy sick leave and an increased risk of recurrence. The optimal treatment of pilonidal sinus remains open to debate, but it should focus on decreasing the length of hospitalization, promoting a rapid return to daily life, maintaining low pain levels, and keeping costs at a minimum.

Adjuvant immune checkpoint inhibitor therapies have radically altered the treatment landscape for renal cell carcinoma and urothelial carcinoma. However, studies have reported negative data regarding adjuvant immune checkpoint inhibitor therapies. Thus, this study aimed to assess the role of adjuvant immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy for both renal cell carcinoma and urothelial carcinoma.

After the acute phase of COVID-19, some patients develop long COVID. This term is used for a variety of conditions with a complex, yet not fully elucidated etiology, likely including the prolonged persistence of the virus in the organism and progression to lung fibrosis. We present a unique autopsy case of a patient with severe COVID-19 with prolonged viral persistence who developed interstitial lung fibrosis complicated by a fatal combination of cytomegalovirus and infection.

Reproductive immunology is at the forefront of research interests, aiming to better understand the mechanisms of immune regulation during gestation. The relationship between the immune system and the implanting embryo is profound because the embryo is semi-allogenic but not targeted by the maternal immune system, as expected in graft-versus-host reactions. The most prominent cell population at the maternal-fetal interface is the population of uterine natural killer (uNK) cells.

The classification of the epithelial tumors of the male and female urethra includes benign and malignant neoplasms. Primary urethral carcinomas and adenocarcinomas of the accessory glands are the most relevant tumors, both from the morphologic and clinical point of view. An accurate diagnosis, grading and staging are essential for determining adequate treatment strategies and outcome.

Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is a cardiac syndrome characterized by transient left ventricular systolic dysfunction in the absence of significant obstructive coronary artery disease. At the autopsy, its diagnosis is often challenging, since it is generally thought that it relates to no characteristic macroscopic or microscopic findings. In order to verify this last statement, we performed a systematic review of the literature following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Statement (PRISMA) criteria.

Hepatoid carcinoma of the ovary (HCO) is a tumor that resembles, both histologically and cytologically, hepatocarcinoma (HCC) in a patient with a non-cirrhotic liver not involved by the disease. Hepatoid carcinoma is an extremely rare histologic subtype of ovarian cancer and should be distinguished from metastatic HCC. Here, we report the rare case of a 67-year-old woman with ovarian recurrence of HCC 12 years after first diagnosis.
