Background: Triglyceride glucose (TyG) index has been proposed as a credible and simple surrogate indicator for insulin resistance. The primary aim of this study was to novelly examine the associations between dietary patterns reflecting variations in circulating TyG index and the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Methods: This study included 120,988 participants from the UK Biobank, all of whom completed multiple 24-h dietary assessments.

Background: Interventional therapy of trigeminal neuropathic pain has been well documented; however, intraoperative monitoring and management of pain hypersensitivity remains barely reported, which may pose a great challenge for pain physicians as well as anesthesiologists.
Case Presentation: A 77-year-old Han Chinese male, who suffered from severe craniofacial postherpetic neuralgia, underwent pulsed radiofrequency of trigeminal ganglion in the authors' department twice. The authors successfully placed a radiofrequency needle through the foramen ovale during the first procedure with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation (dexmedetomidine).

Peripheral nerve injury (PNI)-induced neuropathic pain (NP) is a severe disease with high prevalence in clinics. Gene reprogramming and tissue remodeling in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and spinal cord (SC) drive the development and maintenance of neuropathic pain (NP). However, our understanding of the NP-associated spatial molecular processing landscape of SC and the non-synaptic interactions between DRG neurons and SC cells remains limited.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is among the most challenging malignant brain tumors, making the development of new treatment strategies highly necessary. Glioma stem cells (GSCs) markedly contribute to drug resistance, radiation resistance, and tumor recurrence in GBM. The therapeutic potential of nanomaterials targeting GSCs in GBM urgently needs to be explored.

Pediatric pain significantly affects children's lives, leading to school absenteeism, impaired social interactions, and psychological distress. The perception of sensory signals as pain is influenced by the brain's noradrenergic system, and recent evidence suggests that chronic pain may impact cognitive functioning and emotional regulation. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is associated with alterations in the dopaminergic/noradrenergic systems, which could affect pain perception.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an autoimmune disease that can lead to severe diabetic complications. While the changes and correlations between gut microbiota and the pathogenesis of T1DM have been extensively studied, little is known about the benefits of interventions on gut bacterial communities, particularly using probiotics, for this disease. In the present study, we reported that the mice surviving after 5 months of streptozotocin (STZ) injection had reduced blood glucose level and recovered gut microbiota with increased proportion.

Neurofeedback (NF) has emerged as a promising avenue for demonstrating process-related neuroplasticity, enabling self-regulation of brain function. NF targeting the amygdala has drawn attention to therapeutic potential in psychiatry, by potentially harnessing emotion-regulation processes. However, not all individuals respond equally to NF training, possibly owing to varying self-regulation abilities.

Long-term morphine use leads to tolerance and hyperalgesia in patients with chronic pain, with neuroinflammation playing a key role, but its underlying mechanisms remain elusive. This study determines that repeated intrathecal morphine injections increase double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) production in spinal neurons, due to downregulated adenosine deaminase RNA specific 1 (ADAR1) expression. Lentivirus-induced ADAR1 elevation decreases the high levels of intracellular dsRNA and attenuates morphine tolerance and hyperalgesia.

The tumor microenvironment (TME) facilitates tumor development through intricate intercellular signaling, thereby supporting tumor growth and suppressing the immune response. Thyroid hormone receptor interactor 13 (TRIP13), an AAA+ ATPase, modulates the conformation of client macromolecules, consequently influencing cellular signaling pathways. TRIP13 has been implicated in processes such as proliferation, invasion, migration, and metastasis during tumor progression.

Cadaverine is an endogenous metabolite produced by the gut microbiome with various activity in physiological and pathological conditions. However, whether cadaverine regulates pain or itch remains unclear. In this study, we first found that cadaverine may bind to histamine 4 receptor (H4R) with higher docking energy score using molecular docking simulations, suggesting cadaverine may act as an endogenous ligand for H4R.

Purpose: Neurosurgical ablative procedures, such as cordotomy and cingulotomy, are often considered irreversible and destructive but can provide an effective and individualized solution for cancer-related refractory pain, when all other approaches have been unsuccessful. This paper provides an in-depth exploration of a novel approach to managing refractory cancer pain. It involves an interdisciplinary team led by a neurosurgeon at a renowned national referral center.

Neuropathic pain is a highly prevalent and refractory condition, yet its mechanism remains poorly understood. While NR1, the essential subunit of NMDA receptors, has long been recognized for its pivotal role in nociceptive transmission, its involvement in presynaptic stimulation is incompletely elucidated. Transcription factors can regulate the expression of both pro-nociceptive and analgesic factors.

The infralimbic (IL) cortex dysfunction has been implicated in major depressive disorder (MDD), yet the precise cellular and molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the role of layer V pyramidal neurons in a mouse model of MDD induced by repeated lipopolysaccharide (LPS) administration. Our results demonstrate that three days of systemic LPS administration induced depressive-like behavior and upregulated mRNA levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) in the IL cortex.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is characterized by chronic, low-grade inflammation. This state may be related to the heightened production of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) induced by high glucose (HG). Human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide (LL37) is an endogenous ligand of G protein-coupled chemoattractant receptor formyl peptide receptor 2 (FPR2), expressed on neutrophils and facilitating the formation and stabilization of the structure of NETs.

Introduction: Post-stroke central pain is disabling yet ineffectively treated with routine medical intervention. In this study, the authors presented an alternative neuromodulation therapy and conducted a brief narrative literature review to examine current evidence of spinal cord stimulation treatment for central post-stroke pain.
Case Presentation: Here, the authors reported a case of severe post-stroke syndrome, who achieved satisfactory improvement of pain symptom, as well as muscle rigidity with a novel neuromodulation therapy of short-term implantation of cervical spinal cord stimulation.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a complex and poorly understood disorder characterized by chronic and widespread musculoskeletal pain, of which the etiology remains unknown. Now, the disorder of the gut microbiome is considered as one of the main causes of FM. This study aimed to investigate the potential benefits of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in patients with FM.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate patient characteristics, concomitant analgesic medication, and pain intensity in a real-world setting in Germany, focusing on the repeated application of high-concentration capsaicin patch (HCCP) for neuropathic pain.
Design: Data were collected from electronic medical records of patients who received at least two HCCP treatments between January 2011 and July 2022. Subgroup analyses were performed based on the number of HCCP treatments, age groups, and specific neuropathic pain conditions.
