Allergic rhinitis (AR) is traditionally subdivided into seasonal AR (SAR) and perennial AR (PAR) according to the type of allergen and the occurrence of symptoms during the year. There are currently no reports on the comparison of trait profiles for SAR and PAR during the allergen exposure. The purpose of this study was to analyze the clinical characteristics of SAR and PAR during respective allergen exposure periods to provide valuable information for the development of treatment strategies.

Studies have highlighted oxidative damage in the inner ear as a critical pathological basis for sensorineural hearing loss, especially the presbycusis. Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP1) activation responds to oxidative stress-induced DNA damage with pro-repair and pro-death effects resembling two sides of the same coin. PARP1-related cell death, known as parthanatos, whose underlying mechanisms are attractive research hotspots but remain to be clarified.

Speech comprehension in noise depends on complex interactions between peripheral sensory and central cognitive systems. Despite having normal peripheral hearing, older adults show difficulties in speech comprehension. It remains unclear whether the brain's neural responses could indicate aging.

The fungal plasma membrane H-ATPase (Pma1) pumps protons out of the cell to maintain the transmembrane electrochemical gradient and membrane potential. As an essential P-type ATPase uniquely found in fungi and plants, Pma1 is an attractive antifungal drug target. Two recent Cryo-EM studies on Pma1 have revealed its hexameric architecture, autoinhibitory and activation mechanisms, and proton transport mechanism.

Among the post-transcriptional modifications, m6A RNA methylation has gained significant research interest due to its critical role in regulating transcriptional expression. This modification affects RNA metabolism in several ways, including processing, nuclear export, translation, and decay, making it one of the most abundant transcriptional modifications and a crucial regulator of gene expression. The dysregulation of m6A RNA methylation-related proteins in many tumors has been shown to lead to the upregulation of oncoprotein expression, tumor initiation, proliferation, cancer cell progression, and metastasis.

Study Objectives: Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) poses a significant health hazard, intermittent hypoxia inflicts damage throughout the body and is considered a critical risk factor for metabolic disorders. The aim of this study was to establish a metabolic profile for patients with OSAHS using nontargeted metabolomics detection techniques, providing a basis for OSAHS diagnosis and novel biological marker identification.
Methods: 45 patients with OSAHS composed the OSAHS group, and 44 healthy volunteers composed the control group.

Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is globally recognized as a considerable threat to human health with a rising prevalence and a substantial medical and socioeconomic burden. Numerous studies have emphasized the significance of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in allergic responses. Hence, this research dealt with exploring the involvement of the lncRNA LINC00998 in the mechanism of AR.

Testing is more beneficial for memory retention than restudying the same content. However, the effect of the initial encoding method on the testing effect remains unclear. In this study, a classical testing effect paradigm was employed, along with event-related potentials (ERP), to investigate the electrophysiological processes underlying the effect of enactment encoding on the testing effect.

Background: The tonsils operate as a protection ring of mucosa at the gates of the upper aero-digestive tract. They show similarities with lymph nodes and participate as inductive organs of systemic and mucosal immunity. Based on the reduction of their size since puberty, they are thought to experience involution in adulthood.

Deafness is the prevailing sensory impairment among humans, impacting every aspect of one's existence. Half of congenital deafness cases are attributed to genetic factors. Studies have shown that Luzp2 is expressed in hair cells (HCs) and supporting cells of the inner ear, but its specific role in hearing remains unclear.

Hearing loss is the third most prevalent physical condition affecting communication, well-being, and healthcare costs. Sensorineural hearing loss often occurs first in the high-frequency region (basal turn), then towards the low-frequency region (apical turn). However, the mechanism is still unclear.

This study analyzed the pure tone audiometry results of the affected ear and the contralateral ear of unilateral Meniere's disease to investigate the correlation of the hearing threshold of the contralateral ear and the hearing prognosis of unilateral Meniere's disease. In this study, the follow-up data of 135 patients with unilateral Meniere's disease in Beijing Tongren Hospital were used to analyze the pure tone audiometry results of the affected and contralateral ears at the first visit and 1 year later. ①At the first visit, there was no statistically significant difference between the mean hearing thresholds of the affected ear in the normal hearing group and the high-frequency hearing loss group of the contralateral ear(>0.

Background: Patients with age-related hearing loss (ARHL) often struggle with tracking and locating sound sources, but the neural signature associated with these impairments remains unclear.
Materials And Methods: Using a passive listening task with stimuli from five different horizontal directions in functional magnetic resonance imaging, we defined functional regions of interest (ROIs) of the auditory "where" pathway based on the data of previous literatures and young normal hearing listeners ( = 20). Then, we investigated associations of the demographic, cognitive, and behavioral features of sound localization with task-based activation and connectivity of the ROIs in ARHL patients ( = 22).
