To investigate the efficacy and safety of a novel dose adjustment schedule based on subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) after a 16 weeks delayed injection during the maintenance period. Sixty-eight patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) who received dust mite cluster SCIT and had interrupted treatment for more than 16 weeks during the maintenance period were recruited at Beijing TongRen Hospital, from July to September 2020. They were randomly divided into the novel schedule group (=34) and the guideline recommended schedule group (=34).

Objective: To explore the direction and SPV (slow phase velocity) of the components of spontaneous nystagmus (SN) in patients with vestibular neuritis (VN) and the correlation between SN components and affected semicircular canals (SCCs). Additionally, we aimed to elucidate the role of directional features of peripheral SN in diagnosing acute vestibular syndrome.

Purpose: Attenuating local inflammation of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) was crucial. Corticosteroids were generally exploited to ameliorate the postoperative state of CRSwNP. This study aims to verify the efficacy of steroid-eluting stents on the local inflammation of CRSwNP following ESS.

Distant metastasis is currently the main factor affecting the prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), and understanding the mechanisms of metastasis and identifying reliable therapeutic targets are critical for improving prognosis and achieving clinical translation. Macrophages, as important immune cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME), have been shown to regulate metastasis. And extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted by stromal cells and tumor cells play the important role in intercellular communication in the tumor microenvironment.

Background: Previous studies have shown that IL-25 levels are increased in patients with asthma with fixed airflow limitation (FAL). However, the mechanism by which IL-25 contributes to airway remodeling and FAL remains unclear. Here, we hypothesized that IL-25 facilitates pro-fibrotic phenotypic changes in bronchial epithelial cells (BECs) and circulating fibrocytes (CFs), orchestrates pathological crosstalk from BECs to CFs, and thereby contributes to airway remodeling and FAL.

Paranasal sinus fungal balls usually occur unilaterally, and the maxillary sinus is most commonly involved. However, other sinuses could be concomitantly inflammed, and this phenomenon is rarely discussed. To evaluate the severity of maxillary sinus fungal ball (MSFB) and the occurrence of sinus inflammation in paranasal sinuses according to the image findings and analyze the potential correlations.

Purpose: Alhough antiangiogenic agents are the bedrock of treatment for radioiodine-refractory differentiated thyroid carcinoma (RAIR-DTC), novel antiangiogenic agents with optimized features like greater target-binding affinities and more favorable pharmacokinetics profile are needed. This phase II randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial investigated the efficacy and safety of anlotinib, a multikinase inhibitor, for RAIR-DTC.
Patients And Methods: Patients (ages between 18 and 70 years) with pathologically confirmed locally advanced or metastatic RAIR-DTC were enrolled and randomly received 12 mg anlotinib once daily or placebo on day 1 to 14 every 3 weeks.

Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) remains a common and challenging clinical entity, and its economic burden has not been well described in China thus far.
Methods: A total of 101 CRSwNP patients who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery were included to investigate direct costs in the first year post-surgery. Costs for outpatient visits, medication use, and examination costs were obtained from the Hospital Information System, and differences were compared between subgroups.

Introduction: The incidence of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), one of the most prevalent tumors, is increasing rapidly worldwide. Cuproptosis, as a new copper-dependent cell death form, was proposed recently. However, the prognosis value and immune effects of cuproptosis-related lncRNAs (CRLs) have not yet been elucidated in HNSCC.

Background: Identifying risk factors for occult lateral lymph node metastasis (LLNM) in papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) can provide valuable insights into the necessity of lateral neck dissection (LND). The objective of this study was to develop a nomogram for predicting the probability of LLNM in patients with cN0 unifocal PTMC.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analyzed a total of 4872 patients with cN0 unifocal PTMC who were treated at our center from January 2013 to June 2018.

Background: The microbiome plays a crucial role in odontogenic sinusitis (OS); however, the bacterial characteristics of the sinuses and connected dental regions in OS are poorly understood. In this study, nasal secretion samples were collected from 41 OS patients and 20 simple nasal septum deviation patients, and oral mucosa samples from dental regions were collected from 28 OS patients and 22 impacted tooth extraction patients. DNA was extracted, and 16S rRNA sequencing was performed to explore the characteristics and structure of the microbiome in the sinuses and dental regions of OS patients.

Background: Artemisia pollen is the most prevalent outdoor aeroallergen causing respiratory allergies in Beijing, China. Pollen allergen concentrations have a direct impact on the quality of life of those suffering from allergies. Artemisia pollen deposition grading predictions can provide early warning for the protection and treatment of patients as well as provide a scientific basis for allergen specific clinical immunotherapy.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to prospectively investigate the relationship between new falls and the balancing ability of older adults aged ≥80 years who are independent and evaluate the validity of the assessment tools as a predictor of falls.
Methods: We enrolled a total of 160 participants (104 males and 56 females) aged 80 years or older. During the 12 months of observation, we investigated underlying diseases and drug use and performed a comprehensive geriatric assessment (including self-care ability, muscle strength, action ability, cognition, emotional state, and other aspects), as well as computerized dynamic posturography to assess balance and gait functions.

Cigarette smoke exposure is an important factor in chronic inflammation in patients with allergic rhinitis (AR); however, the relationship between cigarette smoke and AR-related glucocorticoid resistance requires further study. In mice, calpeptin significantly reduces inflammation of the lower respiratory tract caused by cigarette smoke, but whether it can treat glucocorticoid-resistant AR caused by cigarette smoke requires further research. In this study, we confirmed that cigarette smoke exposure can aggravate the Th2 inflammatory response in AR leading to glucocorticoid resistance.

Introduction: House dust mite (HDM) is an important source of airborne allergens in China as it contains several allergenic components that can cause allergic rhinitis (AR) and other allergic diseases. This study aimed to determine the clinical characteristics and disease severity in AR patients sensitised to different allergenic HDM components.
Methods: This was a retrospective study, which examined 129 patients who were first diagnosed with only HDM-induced AR at the Department of Allergy of Beijing Tongren Hospital from December 2019 to April 2021.

Introduction: Olfactory dysfunction (OD) is a typical symptom of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), which adversely affects the patient's quality of life and results in mood depression. Studies investigating the impairment of olfactory epithelium (OE) have indicated that inflammation-induced cell damage and dysfunction in OE plays a vital role in the development of OD. Consequently, glucocorticoids and biologics are beneficial in the management of OD in CRS patients.
