New Technique of Exposed Glaucoma Drainage Tube Repair: Report of a Case.

J Curr Glaucoma Pract

March 2016

Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School New Jersey, United States.

We present the case of successful repair of an exposed glaucoma drainage tube by cornea graft fixation with tissue adhesive, and without subsequent coverage by adjacent conjunctiva or donor tissues. Patient with history of keratoglobus with thin cornea and sclera, and phthisical contralateral eye, underwent three unsuccessful corneal grafts followed by Boston type 1 keratoprosthesis in the right eye. Ahmed drainage device with sclera patch graft was implanted to control the intraocular pressure.

Intraocular foreign bodies: A review.

Surv Ophthalmol

May 2017

Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Department of Ophthalmology, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Newark, New Jersey 07103, USA. Electronic address:

Intraocular foreign body injuries may result in a wide range of intraocular pathology and visual outcomes based on the mechanism of injury, type of foreign body, and subsequent complications. We have reviewed the literature to describe the epidemiology and mechanisms of such injuries; types of foreign bodies; imaging tools for diagnosis; current trends in management, presurgical, and surgical interventions; as well as visual prognosis and potential complications. The purpose of this review is to familiarize clinicians with the recent advances in diagnosis and management of such injuries.

Purpose: To characterize molecular weight fractions of bovine corneal endothelial cell conditioned medium (CM) supporting retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell survival on aged and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) Bruch's membrane.

Methods: CM was subject to size separation using centrifugal filters. Retentate and filtrate fractions were tested for bioactivity by analyzing RPE survival on submacular Bruch's membrane of aged and AMD donor eyes and behavior on collagen I-coated tissue culture wells.

Purpose: To compare intraocular pressure (IOP) after trabectome-mediated ab interno trabeculectomy surgery in phakic patients (T) and trabectome with same session phacoemulsification (PT) using Coarsened Exact Matching. Although phacoemulsification is associated with IOP reduction when performed on its own, it is not known how much it contributes in PT.

Methods: Subjects were divided into phakic T and PT.

Purpose: The ISNT rule for nonglaucomatous eyes suggests that the neuroretinal rim is thickest at the inferior quadrant (I), followed by the superior (S), nasal (N), and temporal (T) quadrants. This study aimed to use Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (HRT III) measurements to assess (a) fulfillment of the ISNT rule and its derivatives in a large normative database and (b) effect of disc size and age on rule fulfillment.

Patients And Methods: A multicenter, prospective, cross-sectional study of a Caucasian normative database consisting of 280 subjects with normal comprehensive biomicroscopic examination, intraocular pressure <21 mm Hg, and normal automated visual field testing was conducted.

EX-PRESS glaucoma filtration device: Review of clinical experience and comparison with trabeculectomy.

Surv Ophthalmol

December 2015

Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Newark, NJ, USA. Electronic address:

Glaucoma filtration surgery is performed to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients for whom maximal tolerable pharmacologic IOP-lowering therapy and/or laser surgery fail to lower IOP sufficiently and/or fail to prevent optic nerve damage or visual field deterioration. For decades, the most widely utilized procedure for glaucoma filtration surgery has been trabeculectomy. Although this approach reliably provides long-term IOP reduction in many patients, the postoperative complication rate is high.
