Positron emission tomography with computed tomography (PET/CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could improve accuracy in target volume determination for gastrointestinal cancers. A systematic search of the PubMed database was performed, focusing on studies published within the last 20 years. Articles were considered eligible for the review if they included patients with anal canal, esophageal, rectal or pancreatic cancer, as well as PET/CT or MRI for radiotherapy treatment planning, and if they reported interobserver variability or changes in treatment planning volume due to different imaging modalities or correlation between the imaging modality and histopathologic specimen.

Background: Infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) strains is one of the risk factors for the development of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Some patients with HPV-positive OSCC have a better prognosis and respond better to various treatment modalities, including radiotherapy or immunotherapy. However, since HPV can only infect human cells, there are only a few immunocompetent mouse models available that enable immunological studies.

Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is a clinically acknowledged method that combines the use of anticancer drugs and electrical pulses. Electrochemotherapy with bleomycin (BLM) can induce immunogenic cell death (ICD) in certain settings. However, whether this is ubiquitous over different cancer types and for other clinically relevant chemotherapeutics used with electrochemotherapy is unknown.

Cutaneous melanoma is a highly aggressive form of skin cancer. The development of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has revolutionized the management of advanced melanoma, led to durable responses, and improved overall survival. However, the success of ICIs in melanoma treatment is influenced by the tumor microenvironment (TME) which plays a critical role in regulating the immune response to the tumor.

Background: Patients with HER2+ breast cancer (BC) frequently develop leptomeningeal metastases (LM). While HER2-targeted therapies have demonstrated efficacy in the neoadjuvant, adjuvant, and metastatic settings, including for parenchymal brain metastases, their efficacy for patients with LM has not been studied in a randomized controlled trial. However, several single-armed prospective studies, case series and case reports have studied oral, intravenous, or intrathecally administered HER2-targeted therapy regimens for patients with HER2+ BC LM.

Background: Skin metastases are an important co-morbidity in melanoma. Despite broad adoption, electrochemotherapy implementation is hindered by a lack of treatment indications, uncertainty regarding procedural aspects, and the absence of quality indicators. An expert consensus may harmonize the approach among centres and facilitate comparison with other therapies.

The effectiveness of highly polar agents in cancer treatment is well recognized, but their physicochemical properties make their analytical determination a demanding task. Their analysis requires peculiar sample preparation and chromatographic separation, which heavily impacts the precision of such an analytical method. As a case study, we chose a polar cytotoxic bleomycin, which is a mixture of complexing congeners with relatively high molecular mass, a fact that creates an added challenge in regard to its detection via electrospray mass spectrometry.

We present two cases of transmission of a pancreatic adenocarcinoma from a single donor to two kidney transplant recipients. Autopsy of the donor revealed a pancreatic adenocarcinoma that had already spread locally to the regional lymph nodes and had not been detected at the time of organ procurement. Both recipients were carefully monitored, as neither consented to graft nephrectomy.

Introduction: A high proportion of metastatic melanoma patients do not respond to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI), and until now, no validated biomarkers for response and survival have been known.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of outcomes in patients with metastatic melanoma treated with first-line ICI at the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana from January 2018 to December 2020. The immune-related adverse events (irAEs) and serum immune-inflammation parameters (neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (LR), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV)) were analyzed as potential biomarkers for response and survival.

Background: The aim of the study was to evaluate the accuracy of volumetric lung image guidance using the spine or carina as a surrogate to target for image registration, as the best approach is not established.
Patients And Methods: Cone beam computed tomography images from the 1, 10, 15, and 20 fraction in 40 lung cancer patients treated with radical radiotherapy were retrospectively registered to planning CT, using three approaches. The spine and carina alignment set-up deviations from a reference (tumour/lymph nodes) registration in the lateral (LAT), longitudinal (LONG) and vertical (VRT) directions were analysed and compared.

ChemoDynamic Therapy (CDT) is a powerful therapeutic modality using Fenton/Fenton-like reactions to produce oxidative stress for cancer treatment. However, the insufficient amount of catalyst ions and ROS scavenging activity of glutathione peroxidase (GPX4) limit the application of this approach. Therefore, a tailored strategy to regulate the Fenton reaction more efficiently (utilizing dual metal cations) and inhibit the GPX4 activity, is in great demand.

Background: Pre-operative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) rather than radiotherapy (RT) has resulted in fewer locoregional recurrences (LRRs), but no decrease in distant metastasis (DM) rate for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). In many countries, patients receive post-operative chemotherapy (pCT) to improve oncological outcomes. We investigated the value of pCT after pre-operative CRT in the RAPIDO trial.
