Background: The differential diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) and lung cancer (LC) is often challenging due to similar clinicopathological presentations when bacterial shedding is negative, which can lead to delays in treatment. In this study, we tested the potential of plasma-circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) for the early and differential diagnosis of TB and LC.
Methods: We conducted a two-phase study: profiling 188 miRNAs in pooled plasma samples and validating 14 selected miRNAs in individual plasma samples from 68 LC patients, 38 pulmonary TB patients, and 41 healthy controls.

This study analyzed the spectral response of EBT3, EBT4, and EBT-XD radiochromic films using absorption spectroscopy. The primary focus was on characterizing the evolution of spectral signatures across a range of absorbed doses, thereby elucidating the unique dose-dependent response profiles of each film type. Ten samples of each film type were subjected to open field irradiation within their designated dose ranges (1-20 Gy for EBT3 and EBT4, 1-50 Gy for EBT-XD).

Microwave ablation is becoming a standard procedure for treating tumors based on heat generation, causing an elevation in the tissue temperature level from 50 to 60 °C, causing tissue death. Microwave ablation is associated with uniform cell killing within ablation zones, multiple-antenna capability, low complication rates, and long-term survival. Several reports have demonstrated that multiple-antenna microwave ablation is a promising strategy for safely, rapidly, and effectively treating large tumors.

This study focuses on the designing and characterization, and anticancer evaluation of chitosan-based nanoparticles (NPs) loaded (enriched) with a Biginelli hybrid compound (BH). NPs based on chitosan (CH) or chitosan oligosaccharide lactate (CHOL), are carefully designed to encapsulate a tetrahydropyrimidine derivative (BH) with already proven anticancer properties. The formulations were evaluated for their physicochemical properties, including particle size distribution and morphology, using techniques such as infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction.

Background: The finding of mutations that activate epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in people with lung adenocarcinoma resulted in the creation of a new class of biological treatments called tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI). These medications have changed how patients with EGFR mutations are clinically managed, nearly doubling their survival rate compared to standard chemotherapy. Though 1st and 2nd generation EGFR TKIs are initially highly effective, typically within 9-14 months all tumors with the mutation progress due to secondary resistance mutations involving alternative molecular pathways.

The present study included an assessment of in vitro cytotoxicity against human malignant and normal cells according to the MTT-test and in vivo antitumor effects in solid tumor models in comparison with precursor compounds T1023 (NOS inhibitor; 1-isobutanoyl-2-isopropylisothiourea hydrobromide) and Na-DCA (PDK inhibitor; sodium dichloroacetate), using morphological, histological, and immunohistochemical methods. The effects of T1084 and T1023 on the in vitro survival of normal (MRC-5) and most malignant cells (A375, MFC-7, K562, OAW42, and PC-3) were similar and quantitatively equal.

This investigation aimed to optimize gradient positioning for radiochromic film calibration to facilitate a uniform distribution of calibration points. The study investigated the influence of various parameters on gradient dose profiles generated by a physical wedge, assessing their impact on the field's dose dynamic range, a scalar quantity representing the span of absorbed doses. Numerical parameterization of the physical wedge profile was used to visualize and quantify the impact of field size, depth, and energy on the dynamic range of dose gradients.

This systematic review aims to address the research gap in the performance of computational algorithms for the digital image analysis of HER2 images in clinical settings. While numerous studies have explored various aspects of these algorithms, there is a lack of comprehensive evaluation regarding their effectiveness in real-world clinical applications. We conducted a search of the Web of Science and PubMed databases for studies published from 31 December 2013 to 30 June 2024, focusing on performance effectiveness and components such as dataset size, diversity and source, ground truth, annotation, and validation methods.

Oncofertility is an extremely significant topic that is increasingly being discussed owing to increased evidence indicating that fertility preservation does not affect the treatment outcomes of patients with cancer but significantly contributes to preserving life quality. The effect of chemotherapy can range from minimal effects to complete ovarian atrophy. Limited data are available on the effects of monoclonal antibodies and targeted therapies on the ovaries and fertility.

Tumor histomorphology is crucial for the prognostication of breast cancer outcomes because it contains histological, cellular, and molecular tumor heterogeneity related to metastatic potential. To enhance breast cancer prognosis, we aimed to apply radiomics analysis-traditionally used in 3D scans-to 2D histopathology slides. This study tested radiomics analysis in a cohort of 92 breast tumor specimens for outcome prognosis, addressing -omics dimensionality by comparing models with moderate and high feature counts, using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator for feature selection and machine learning for prognostic modeling.
