This study aimed to develop a fast and reliable protocol for Trinitrophenol-Tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (TNP-Tris) detection applying a β-lactamase-fusion protein of choice, the natural product-based immunoreagent tool of competitive sensitivity developed herein for the first time. Since the fusion protein 11B3-scFv-β-lactamase is constructed from a scFv-antibody (11B3) linked to an enzyme (β-lactamase), the step related to the use of secondary antibody in the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is completely omitted. Indeed, this fusion protein itself serves both as binding mean of the antigen model and detecting agent, due to the presence of the naturally occurring enzyme.

Nanocrystalline iron manganite powder was synthesized using the sol-gel combustion process, with glycine as fuel. It was further calcined at 900 °C for 8 h, resulting in the formation of a loose cubic FeMnO powder with a small specific surface area, net-like structure and plate-like particles as confirmed by XRD, N physisorption, FESEM and TEM analyses. The metal ion release was studied by ICP-OES and showed that less than 10 ppb of Fe or Mn ions were released by leaching in water, but 0.

Motivation: Proteins containing tandem repeats (TRs) are abundant, frequently fold in elongated non-globular structures and perform vital functions. A number of computational tools have been developed to detect TRs in protein sequences. A blurred boundary between imperfect TR motifs and non-repetitive sequences gave rise to necessity to validate the detected TRs.

Based on the finding that a central antihypertensive agent with high affinity for I1-type imidazoline receptors - rilmenidine, shows cytotoxic effects on cultured cancer cell lines, it has been suggested that imidazoline receptors agonists might have a therapeutic potential in the cancer therapy. Nevertheless, potential rilmenidine side effects caused by activation of α-adrenoceptors, or other associated receptors and enzymes, might hinder its therapeutic benefits. Considering that human α-adrenoceptors belong to the rhodopsin-like class A of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) it is reasonable to assume that imidazolines might have the affinity for other receptors from the same class.

As a material for application in the life sciences, a new composite material, geopolymer/CeO (GP_CeO), was synthesized as a potential low-cost solid electrolyte for application in solid oxide fuel cells operating in intermediate temperature (IT-SOFC). The new materials were obtained from alkali-activated metakaolin (calcined clay) in the presence of CeO powders (x = 10%). Besides the commercial CeO powder, as a source of ceria, two differently synthesized CeO powders also were used: CeO synthesized by modified glycine nitrate procedure (MGNP) and self-propagating reaction at room temperature (SPRT).

This study aimed to design and functionally characterize peptide mimetics of the nanobody (Nb) related to the β-adrenergic receptor (β-AR) (nanobody-derived peptide, NDP). We postulated that the computationally derived and optimized complementarity-determining region 3 (CDR3) of Nb is sufficient for its interaction with receptor. Sequence-related Nb-families preferring the agonist-bound active conformation of β-AR were analysed using the informational spectrum method (ISM) and β-AR:NDP complexes studied using protein-peptide docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations in conjunction with metadynamics calculations of free energy binding.

Summary: Although various tools for Gene Ontology (GO) term enrichment analysis are available, there is still room for improvement. Hence, we present DiNGO, a standalone application based on an open source code from BiNGO, a widely-used application to assess the overrepresentation of GO categories. Besides facilitating GO term enrichment analyses, DiNGO has been developed to allow for convenient Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO) term overrepresentation investigation.

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is characterized by acid and bile reflux in the distal oesophagus, and this may cause the development of reflux esophagitis and Barrett's oesophagus (BE). The natural histological course of untreated BE is non-dysplastic or benign BE (ND), then lowgrade (LGD) and High-Grade Dysplastic (HGD) BE, with the expected increase in malignancy transfer to oesophagal adenocarcinoma (EAC). The gold standard for BE diagnostics involves high-resolution white-light endoscopy, followed by uniform endoscopy findings description (Prague classification) with biopsy performance according to Seattle protocol.

The Inorganic Crystal Structure Database (ICSD) is the world's largest database of fully evaluated and published crystal structure data, mostly obtained from experimental results. However, the purely experimental approach is no longer the only route to discover new compounds and structures. In the past few decades, numerous computational methods for simulating and predicting structures of inorganic solids have emerged, creating large numbers of theoretical crystal data.

Primary hypothyroidism can affect lipid metabolism, cardiovascular (CV) function, and overall patients' quality of life (QoL). Decrease in serum nitric oxide (NO) levels could promote the atherosclerosis acceleration in hypothyroid patients. Our hypothesis is that serum NO level is altered in hypothyroidism; more specifically, we hypothesize that the early vascular changes that can be observed in hypothyroidism could be due to these alterations and that serum NO levels are associated with lipid levels in female patients diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) or clinical hypothyroidism (CH).

Mapping the brain imaging data to networks, where nodes represent anatomical brain regions and edges indicate the occurrence of fiber tracts between them, has enabled an objective graph-theoretic analysis of human connectomes. However, the latent structure on higher-order interactions remains unexplored, where many brain regions act in synergy to perform complex functions. Here we use the simplicial complexes description of human connectome, where the shared simplexes encode higher-order relationships between groups of nodes.
