Herein, we report an efficient and facile strategy for the preparation of imidazolium-based ionic liquid (IL) monomers ([CVIm][Br], = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12) and their corresponding polymeric ionic liquids (PILs) with potent antimicrobial activities against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and fungi. The electrospinning technique was utilized to tailor the polymers with the highest antimicrobial potency into porous membranes that can be easily implemented into diverse systems and extend their practical bactericidal application. The antimicrobial mechanism of obtained ILs, polymers, and nanomaterials is considered concerning the bearing chain length, polymerization process, and applied processing technique that provides a unique fibrous structure.

Three novel coordination polymers (CPs), namely [Cu(μ-1κO,2κN-L)] (1), [Zn (μ-1κO,2κN-L)(HO)] (2) and [Cd (μ-1κOO',2κN-L)] (3) [where HL = 4-(pyrimidin-5-ylcarbamoyl)benzoic acid], were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, ATR-IR, TGA, XPS and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Despite having the same organic ligand, the various metal cations had an impact in the subsequent frameworks. Hirshfeld surface analysis was performed to investigate the intermolecular interactions and to examine the stability of the crystal structures of the three polymers.

Non-woven jute (NWJ) produced from carpet industry waste was oxidized by HO or alkali-treated by NaOH and compared with water-washed samples. Changes in the structure of the NWJ, tracked by X-ray diffraction (XRD), showed that both chemical treatments disrupt hydrogen bond networks between cellulose Iβ chains of the NWJ fibers. Thereafter, nano-carbon nitride (nCN) was impregnated, using a layer-by-layer technique, onto water-washed jute samples (nCN-Jw), NaOH-treated samples (nCN-Ja) and-HO treated samples (nCN-Jo).

Harmful cyanobacteria blooms and the escalating impact of cyanotoxins necessitates the effective removal of cyanobacteria from water ecosystems before they release cyanotoxins. In this study, cyanobacteria removal from water samples taken from the eutrophic Aleksandrovac Lake (southern Serbia) was investigated. For that purpose, novel activated carbons derived from waste biomass-date palm leaf stalk (P_AC), black alder cone-like flowers (A_AC), and commercial activated carbon from coconut shell (C_AC) as a reference were used.

Conventional air quality monitoring networks typically tend to be sparse over areas of interest. Because of the high cost of establishing such monitoring systems, some areas are often completely left out of regulatory monitoring networks. Recently, a new paradigm in monitoring has emerged that utilizes low-cost air pollution sensors, thus making it possible to reduce the knowledge gap in air pollution levels for areas not covered by regulatory monitoring networks and increase the spatial resolution of monitoring in others.
