Direct magnetic writing of ferromagnetic nanoscale elements provides an alternative pathway for potential application in data storage or spintronic devices. Magnetic patterning due to local chemical disordering of FeAl thin films results in adjacent nanoscale regions that possess two different phases, a low-magnetization and high-coercive chemically ordered phase (non-irradiated ferromagnetic area, NIFM) and a high-magnetization and low-coercive chemically disordered phase (irradiated ferromagnetic area, IMF). Depending on the volume of NIFM and IFM phases, different interaction mechanisms were revealed.

Novel functionalized (biofunctionalization followed by cisplatin immobilization) FeO@SiO@Au nanoparticles (NPs) were designed. The encapsulation of FeO cores inside continuous SiO shells preserves their initial structure and strong magnetic properties, while the shell surface can be decorated by small Au NPs, and then cisplatin (cPt) can be successfully immobilized on their surface. The fabricated NPs exhibit very strong contrasting properties for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Non-cytotoxic, temperature-responsive and antibacterial poly(di(ethylene glycol)methyl ether methacrylate) - POEGMA188 based nanocomposite coatings attached to a glass surface were successfully prepared using ATRP polymerization. The thickness, morphology and wettability of the resulting coatings were analyzed using ellipsometry, AFM and contact angle measurements, respectively. The strong impact of the thicknesses of the POEGMA188 grafted brush coatings and content of AgNPs on the morphology and temperature-induced wettability changes of the nanocomposite was demonstrated.

Low environmental stability of ZnO nanostructures in hydrophilic systems is a crucial factor limiting their practical applications. ZnO nanomaterials need surface passivation with different water-insoluble compounds. This study describes a one-step passivation process of polycrystalline ZnO films with ZnS as a facile method of ZnO surface coating.
