A novel group of conjugative plasmids of is characterized. The prototype plasmid pPPUT-Tik1-1 (153,663 bp), isolated from a permafrost strain of Tik1, carries a defective mercury transposon, Tn, and a streptomycin resistance transposon, Tn Ten plasmids and 34 contigs with backbone regions closely related to pPPUT-Tik1-1 have been found in GenBank. Two of these plasmids from clinical strains of and are almost identical to the ancient plasmid.

Commensal bacteriocin-producing are of interest for possible use as probiotics to selectively control the spread of pathogenic bacteria. Here, we evaluated the biosafety and efficacy of two new bacteriocin-producing strains, Q5 (VKM B-3706D) and C41 (VKM B-3707D), isolated from healthy farm animals. The genomes of both strains were sequenced, and genes responsible for the antagonistic and colonization abilities of each strain were identified.

The problem of low-dose irradiation has been discussed in the scientific literature for several decades, but it is impossible to come to a generally accepted conclusion about the presence of any specific features of low-dose irradiation in contrast to acute irradiation. We were interested in the effect of low doses of UV radiation on the physiological processes, including repair processes in cells of the yeast , in contrast to high doses of radiation. Cells utilize excision repair and DNA damage tolerance pathways without significant delay of the cell cycle to address low levels of DNA damage (such as spontaneous base lesions).

Human PrimPol possesses DNA primase and DNA polymerase activities and restarts stalled replication forks protecting cells against DNA damage in nuclei and mitochondria. The zinc-binding motif (ZnFn) of the C-terminal domain (CTD) of PrimPol is required for DNA primase activity but the mechanism is not clear. In this work, we biochemically demonstrate that PrimPol initiates de novo DNA synthesis in cis-orientation, when the N-terminal catalytic domain (NTD) and the CTD of the same molecule cooperate for substrates binding and catalysis.
