Background: It has been demonstrated that simultaneous resection of both primary colorectal lesion and metastatic hepatic lesion is a safe approach with low mortality and postoperative complication rates. However, there are some controversies over which kind of surgical approach is better. The aim of study was to compare the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic surgeries and open surgeries for simultaneous resection of colorectal cancer (CRC) and synchronous colorectal liver metastasis (SCRLM).

Background: The mTOR pathway is vital for homeostasis, metabolism, cancer transplantation and regeneration in the liver. The aim of this study is to use a bibliometric method to reveal current research hotspots and promising future trends in mTOR signaling in liver diseases.
Methods: Publications were searched and downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) Database.

Background: Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is a highly lethal malignancy. Neoadjuvant chemo(radio)therapy [NAC(R)T] is recommended to use for borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (BRPC) and high-risk resectable pancreatic cancer (RPC), but no high-level evidence exists.
Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane library to identify trials comparing survival data of NAC(R)T with SF for RPC or BRPC.

Background: Laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH) has been identified to be effective and safe for elderly patients (≥70 years). This study aims to assess the short-and long-term outcome of totally laparoscopic liver resection for elderly patients with Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 93 patients with HCC who underwent LH from August, 2003 to July, 2013 in a single center.

Background: Postoperative hypocalcemia caused by hypoparathyroidism is one of the most common morbidities of total thyroidectomy. The aim of this study was to analyze the kinetics and factors affecting PTH levels after total thyroidectomy and central neck dissection (CND).
Material/methods: We performed a retrospective study in 438 consecutive patients who underwent total thyroidectomy between January 2007 and December 2010.

Background: A new procedure of colonic anastomosis with a degradable stent has already been proven to be simple, feasible, and safe in our porcine model. In this study, we evaluated its impact on the colonic physiologic functions.
Methods: A total of 20 pigs were assigned randomly to either a stent anastomosis group (SA, n = 10) or a conventional anastomosis group (CA, n = 10).

Background: Surgical treatment has become the standard treatment for nontraumatic diseases of the spleen. This meta-analysis compared the relative merits of laparoscopic splenectomy (LS) with open splenectomy (OS) for nontraumatic splenic diseases.
Methods: A literature search was performed to identify studies comparing perioperative outcomes in patients who underwent LS or OS for nontraumatic diseases.

Background: Laparoscopic liver resection has not been widely used because of intraoperative bleeding. This problem should be solved with instruments and techniques that require a short learning curve.
Materials And Methods: The aim of this work was to present the technique used in our center to perform laparoscopic liver resection using the 'curettage and aspiration' technique with laparoscopic Peng's multifunctional operational dissectors and regional occlusion of inflow and outflow.

Background: Gastrojejunostomy is one of the most frequently used procedures for general surgeons. The creation of anastomosis between various parts of the gastrointestinal tract is a basic technical component and major task in the daily practice of almost all gastrointestinal procedures. This research evaluated a new procedure of making gastrointestinal anastomosis with stent.

Background: Laparoscopic surgery is advantageous for minimal invasiveness and rapid postoperative recovery. Since the use of laparoscopic hepatectomy in liver resection in the 1990s, it has been performed in a few institutions worldwide. Lack of efficient and safe techniques for liver transaction is the major obstacle preventing from its further development.
