Aim: We evaluated the impact of inpatient and outpatient treatment provided by an infant nutrition foundation in Las Heras, Mendoza, Argentina and identified the factors that influenced nutritional recovery.

Methods: This 2010-2018 retrospective study was based on 300 children up to 5 years of age with primary malnutrition, who were treated by an inpatient recovery centre, then an outpatient prevention centre. We analysed the children's height, weight, psychomotor development and living conditions when they were admitted, discharged and had received 1 year of outpatient treatment.

The zinc finger transcription factor EGR4 has previously been identified as having a critical role in the proliferation of small cell lung cancer. Here, we have identified a novel, shortened splice variant of this transcription factor (EGR4-S) that is regulated by Heat Shock Factor-1 (HSF1). Our findings demonstrate that the shortened variant (EGR4-S) is upregulated with high EGFR, HER2, and H-Ras-expressing breast cell lines, and its expression is inhibited in response to HER pathway inhibitors.

Double heterozygosity pathogenic variants in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are a very rare finding, particularly in non-Ashkenazi individuals. We described the first case of double heterozygosity variants in a non-Ashkenazi Argentinean woman with metachronous bilateral breast cancer. The proband is a 65-year-old female diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in the left breast at 45 years old and invasive carcinoma in the right breast at 65 years old.

Maternal milk consumption can cause changes in the mammary epithelium of the offspring that result in the expression of molecules involved in the induction of differentiation, reducing the risk of developing mammary cancer later in life. We previously showed that animals that maintained a higher intake of maternal milk had a lower incidence of mammary cancer. In the present study, we evaluated one of the possible mechanisms by which the consumption of maternal milk could modify the susceptibility to mammary carcinogenesis.

Motivation: Statistical and machine-learning analyses of tumor transcriptomic profiles offer a powerful resource to gain deeper understanding of tumor subtypes and disease prognosis. Currently, prognostic gene-expression signatures do not exist for all cancer types, and most developed to date have been optimized for individual tumor types. In Galgo, we implement a bi-objective optimization approach that prioritizes gene signature cohesiveness and patient survival in parallel, which provides greater power to identify tumor transcriptomic phenotypes strongly associated with patient survival.

Heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) is the primary component for initiation of the powerful heat shock response (HSR) in eukaryotes. The HSR is an evolutionarily conserved mechanism for responding to proteotoxic stress and involves the rapid expression of heat shock protein (HSP) molecular chaperones that promote cell viability by facilitating proteostasis. HSF1 activity is amplified in many tumor contexts in a manner that resembles a chronic state of stress, characterized by high levels of gene expression as well as HSF1-mediated non- gene regulation.

Purpose Of Review: Several studies have attributed garlic's beneficial properties to its high content of organosulfur compounds (OSCs). Here, we summarized recent studies published and some own findings regarding OSCs and its effects on cardiovascular disease, inflammation, and obesity.

Recent Finding: The analysis of the multiple actions produced by OSCs suggests that many of its bioactivities interfere against inflammation, oxidative stress, obesogenic effects, and mitochondrial dysfunction.

Heat shock protein (HSP) synthesis is switched on in a remarkably wide range of tumor cells, in both experimental animal systems and in human cancer, in which these proteins accumulate in high levels. In each case, elevated HSP concentrations bode ill for the patient, and are associated with a poor outlook in terms of survival in most cancer types. The significance of elevated HSPs is underpinned by their essential roles in mediating tumor cell intrinsic traits such as unscheduled cell division, escape from programmed cell death and senescence, de novo angiogenesis, and increased invasion and metastasis.

The thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3) plays a fundamental role in growth regulation, differentiation, metabolism and cellular movement. Neoadjuvant (or induction) chemotherapy can be used for cervical cancer patients with locally advanced disease; this treatment is followed by radical surgery and/or radiation therapy.
