X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) is a rare inborn error of the peroxisomal metabolism caused by pathologic variants in the ATP-binding cassette transporter type D, member 1 () gene located on the X-chromosome. ABCD1 protein, also known as adrenoleukodystrophy protein, is responsible for transport of the very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA) from cytoplasm into the peroxisomes. Therefore, altered function or lack of the ABCD1 protein leads to accumulation of VLCFA in various tissues and blood plasma leading to either rapidly progressive leukodystrophy (cerebral ALD), progressive adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN), or isolated primary adrenal insufficiency (Addison's disease).

Methods: In 38 lcSSc patients and 38 controls, periodontal status was evaluated by disease-specific questionnaire, dental examination including bleeding on probing (BOP), pocket depth, and plaque index, and dental panoramic radiograph.

We herein present data from the longitudinal prospective CovILD trial, and investigate the recovery from COVID-19 in individuals with dysglycemia and dyslipidemia. The P-glycoprotein efflux pump, encoded by the ABCB1 gene, has been shown to alter concentrations of various antidepressants in the brain. In this study, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the association between six ABCB1 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; rs1045642, rs2032582, rs1128503, rs2032583, rs2235015, and rs2235040) and antidepressant treatment outcomes in individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD), including new data from the Canadian Biomarker and Integration Network for Depression (CAN-BIND-1) cohort. For the CAN-BIND-1 sample, we applied regression models to investigate the association between ABCB1 SNPs and antidepressant treatment response, remission, tolerability, and antidepressant serum levels.

Accumulating evidence suggests an association of the tryptophan−kynurenine (TRP-KYN) pathway with atherosclerosis and cardiovascular risk factors. In this cross-sectional analysis we investigated whether TRP-KYN pathway parameters are associated with 24 h blood pressure (BP) and other risk factors in patients with arterial hypertension from a tertiary care centre. In 490 participants, we found no significant and independent association of 24 h systolic and diastolic BP with parameters of the TRP-KYN pathway.

Background: The treatment landscape of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) has substantially advanced over the last three decades, whereby data from controlled clinical trials indicate significant improvements regarding patients' overall survival (OS) in highly selected patient cohorts. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of potentially game changing drugs on patients' outcomes by comparing three different historical mRCC treatment eras.
Methods: In all, 914 mRCC patients who were diagnosed between July 1985 and September 2020 were included into this observational study and assigned to three different treatment eras ['cytokine', 'first-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs)', and 'modern TKIs/immunotherapy'] based on the EMA approval dates of sunitinib (July 2006) and nivolumab (June 2015) in mRCC treatment.

In order to assess SARS-CoV-2 real time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) results in a real-life setting, three independent laboratories in Graz (Austria) set up a continuous cross comparison schedule. The following test systems were used: The QIAGEN NeuMoDx SARS-CoV-2 Assay, the Allplex™ 2019-nCoV Assay (Seegene) on a MicroLab Nimbus (Hamilton) platform combined with RealStar SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Assay (Altona Diagnostics GmbH), and the cobas SARS-CoV-2 test on a fully automated cobas 6800 system (Roche). A total of 200 samples were analysed, 184 (92%) were found to be concordant with all testing platforms, 14 (7%) discordant.

Mycophenolic acid (MPA) is a widely used immunosuppressive agent and exerts its effect by inhibiting inosine 5'-monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH), the main regulating enzyme of purine metabolism. However, significant unexplained differences in the efficacy and tolerability of MPA therapy pose a clinical challenge. Therefore, broad pharmacogenetic, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacodynamic approaches are needed to individualize MPA therapy.
