Background: Ischemic stroke (IS) is one of the most common serious secondary diseases of atrial fibrillation (AF) within 1 year after its occurrence, both of which have manifestations of ischemia and hypoxia of the small vessels in the early phase of the condition. The fundus is a collection of capillaries, while the retina responds differently to light of different wavelengths. Predicting the risk of IS occurring secondary to AF, based on subtle differences in fundus images of different wavelengths, is yet to be explored.

Objectives: Antibiotic resistance (AR) is a global health issue with multidimensional repercussions. There is a paucity of data regarding the molecular epidemiology of multidrug-resistant Enterobacterales (MDR-E) and extended-spectrum ß-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-PE) in Africa, especially among people living with HIV (PLHIV). This study aimed at determining the prevalence, risk factors, phenotypic and genotypic profiles of MDR-E and ESBL-PE isolated from PLHIV in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Chirality is a crucial mechanical cue within the extracellular matrix during tissue repair and regeneration. Despite its key roles in cell behavior and regeneration efficacy, our understanding of chirality-biased protein profile in vivo remains unclear. In this study, we characterized the proteomic profile of proteins extracted from bone defect areas implanted with left-handed and right-handed scaffold matrices during the early healing stage.

Nanofibers are long, wire-like materials with nanoscale diameters and specific length diameter ratios. Nanofibers have porous reticular networks with remarkably high specific surface areas and significant interconnectivity between pores, allowing for the chemical modification and loading of drugs. Metallized nanofibers are novel materials that enhance the performance of attributes of conventional nanofibers by combining metals with nanofibers through electrostatic spinning doping, chemical modification, and loading approaches.

Tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs) are crucial components of the tumour microenvironment and play a significant role in tumour development and drug resistance by creating an immunosuppressive microenvironment. Macrophages are essential components of both the innate and adaptive immune systems and contribute to pathogen resistance and the regulation of organism homeostasis. Macrophage function and polarization are closely linked to altered metabolism.

Purpose: Paranasal anomalies are commonly discovered during routine radiological screenings and can present with a wide range of morphological features. This diversity can make it difficult for convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to accurately classify these anomalies, especially when working with limited datasets. Additionally, current approaches to paranasal anomaly classification are constrained to identifying a single anomaly at a time.

Deep neural networks (DNNs) have been widely applied in the medical image community, contributing to automatic ophthalmic screening systems for some common diseases. However, the incidence of fundus diseases patterns exhibits a typical long-tailed distribution. In clinic, a small number of common fundus diseases have sufficient observed cases for large-scale analysis while most of the fundus diseases are infrequent.

Background: Periodontal ligament-associated protein-1 (PLAP-1), an important target molecule of osteoarthritis research, may affect alveolar bone resorption. The aim of our study was to comprehensively and systematically detect the effect of PLAP-1 on alveolar bone resorption and the underlying mechanism in PLAP-1 knockout mouse models.
Methods: We used a PLAP-1 knockout (C57BL/6N-Plap-1 ) mouse model to investigate the effect of PLAP-1 on osteoclast differentiation and the underlying mechanism by adding Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide to stimulate bone marrow-derived macrophages.

Neuromuscular cell culture models are used to investigate synapse formation and function, as well as mechanisms of de-and regeneration in neuromuscular diseases. Recent developments including 3D culture technique and hiPSC technology have propelled their ability to complement insights from models. However, most cultures have not considered Schwann cells, the glial part of NMJs.

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) has been proved as a specific target for diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer (PCa). Recently, oxalyldiaminopropionic acid (ODAP)-Urea-based ligands showed the potential as a new scaffold for developing radiotracers to image PCa. In this study, we synthesized seven ODAP-Urea-Lys derivatives characterized with p-bromobenzyl group conjugated to lysine.

The complex molecular alterations that underlie cancer pathophysiology are studied in depth with omics methods using bulk tissue extracts. For spatially resolved tissue diagnostics using needle biopsy cores, however, histopathological analysis using stained FFPE tissue and the immunohistochemistry (IHC) of a few marker proteins is currently the main clinical focus. Today, spatial omics imaging using MSI or IRI is an emerging diagnostic technology for the identification and classification of various cancer types.
