Infantile tremor syndrome (ITS) owing to vitamin B deficiency usually presents with tremors, anaemia, pigmentary skin changes, neuro-regression and hypotonia. A 10-month-old boy with ITS and respiratory failure owing to bilateral diaphragmatic palsy who responded to high parenteral doses of vitamin B is presented. As far as we are aware, this is the first report of diaphragmatic palsy associated with ITS and vitamin B deficiency.

The present study on cost of a unit of blood was conducted in blood bank of a tertiary care public hospital with an annual collection of 20,748. A retrospective chart review was done to calculate the activity wise annual unit cost of blood, based on WHO guidelines (Blood Safety Unit. safe blood and blood products: costing blood transfusion services, World Health Organization, Geneva, 1998).
