In this study, we present an unexplored approach for remote focus manipulation using 3D nanoprinted holograms integrated on the end face of multi-core single-mode fibers. This innovative method enables precise focus control within a monolithic metafiber device by allowing light coupled into any of the 37 cores to be precisely focused at predefined locations. Our approach demonstrates significant advances over conventional lenses and offers unique functionalities through computationally designed holograms.

Embedding quantum dots into porous matrices is a very beneficial approach for generating hybrid nanostructures with unique properties. In this contribution we explore strategies to dope nanoporous SiO thin films made by atomic layer deposition and selective wet chemical etching with precise control over pore size with CdSe quantum dots. Two distinct strategies were employed for quantum dot deposition: in situ growth of CdSe nanocrystals within the porous matrix via successive ionic layer adsorption reaction, and infiltration of pre-synthesized quantum dots.

Advancements in high-temperature thermoelectric (TE) materials have been substantial, yet identifying promising near-room-temperature candidates for efficient power generation from low-grade waste heat or TE cooling applications has become critical but proven exceedingly challenging. Bismuth oxyselenide (BiOSe) emerges as an ideal candidate for near-room-temperature energy harvesting due to its low thermal conductivity, high carrier mobility and remarkable air-stability. In this study, the TE properties of few-layer BiOSe over a wide temperature range (20-380 K) are investigated, where a charge transport mechanism transitioning from polar optical phonon to piezoelectric scattering at 140 K is observed.

Structured light has proven useful for numerous photonic applications. However, the current use of structured light in optical fiber science and technology is severely limited by mode mixing or by the lack of optical elements that can be integrated onto fiber end-faces for wavefront engineering, and hence generation of structured light is still handled outside the fiber via bulky optics in free space. We report a metafiber platform capable of creating arbitrarily structured light on the hybrid-order Poincaré sphere.

Despite the increasing concern about the harmful effects of micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs), there are no harmonized guidelines or protocols yet available for MNP ecotoxicity testing. Current ecotoxicity studies often use commercial spherical particles as models for MNPs, but in nature, MNPs occur in variable shapes, sizes and chemical compositions. Moreover, protocols developed for chemicals that dissolve or form stable dispersions are currently used for assessing the ecotoxicity of MNPs.

Thin film composite (TFC) hollow fiber membranes with ultrathin selective layer are desirable to maximize the gas permeance for practical applications. Herein, a bio-inspired strategy is proposed to fabricate sub-100-nm membranes via a tree-mimicking polymer network with amphipathic components featuring multifunctionalities. The hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) brushes act as the roots that can strongly cling to the gutter layer, the PDMS crosslinkers function as the xylems to enable fast gas transport, and the hydrophilic ethylene-oxide moieties (brushes and mobile molecules) resemble tree leaves that selectively attract CO molecules.

Accurate characterization of diffusing nanoscale species is increasingly important for revealing processes at the nanoscale, with fiber-assisted nanoparticle-tracking-analysis representing a new and promising approach in this field. In this work, we uncover the potential of this approach for the characterization of very small nanoparticles (<20 nm) through experimental studies, statistical analysis and the employment of a sophisticated fiber and chip design. The central results is the characterization of diffusing nanoparticles as small as 9 nm with record-high precision, corresponding to the smallest diameter yet determined for an individual nanoparticle with nanoparticle-tracking-analysis using elastic light scattering alone.

Currently, the efforts to find materials with high κ anisotropy ratios mainly focus on layered materials, however, the limited quantity and lower workability comparing to non-layered ones boost the exploration of non-layered materials with high κ anisotropy ratios. Here, taking PbSnS , a typical non-layered orthorhombic compound, as an example, we propose that maldistribution of chemical bond strength can lead to large anisotropy of κ in non-layered materials. Our result reveals that the maldistribution of Pb-S bonds lead to obvious collective vibrations of dioctahedron chain units, resulting in an anisotropy ratio up to 7.

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-polyethylene glycol (PEDOT:PEG) is a conductive material adopted in bioelectronics due to its biocompatibility and stability. While PEDOT has established its utility in cationic solid-contact ion-selective electrodes (sc-ISEs), its anionic counterpart remains less explored. Herein, we report the first example of PEDOT:PEG as a solution-printable solid-contact for all-solid-state nitrate-selective electrodes and a simple ion exchange treatment which can significantly enhance nitrate selectivity.

Accurate determination of the size distribution of nanoparticle ensembles remains a challenge in nanotechnology-related applications due to the limitations of established methods. Here, a microstructured fiber-assisted nanoparticle tracking analysis (FaNTA) realization is introduced that breaks existing limitations through the recording of exceptionally long trajectories of rapidly diffusing polydisperse nanoparticles, resulting in excellent sizing precision and unprecedented separation capabilities of bimodal nanoparticle mixtures. An effective-single-mode antiresonant-element fiber allows to efficiently confine nanoparticles in a light-guiding microchannel and individually track them over more than 1000 frames, while aberration-free imaging is experimentally confirmed by cross-correlation analysis.

Dispersion engineering is essential to the performance of most modern optical systems including fiber-optic devices. Even though the chromatic dispersion of a meter-scale single-mode fiber used for endoscopic applications is negligible, optical lenses located on the fiber end face for optical focusing and imaging suffer from strong chromatic aberration. Here we present the design and nanoprinting of a 3D achromatic diffractive metalens on the end face of a single-mode fiber, capable of performing achromatic and polarization-insensitive focusing across the entire near-infrared telecommunication wavelength band ranging from 1.

All-electric switching of perpendicular magnetization is a prerequisite for the integration of fast, high-density, and low-power magnetic memories and magnetic logic devices into electric circuits. To date, the field-free spin-orbit torque (SOT) switching of perpendicular magnetization has been observed in SOT bilayer and trilayer systems through various asymmetric designs, which mainly aim to break the mirror symmetry. Here, we report that the perpendicular magnetization of CoPt single layers within a special composition range (20 < x < 56) can be deterministically switched by electrical current in the absence of external magnetic field.

For the development of selective and sensitive chemical sensors, we have developed a new family of poly(ether-phosphoramide) polymers. These polymers were obtained with satisfactory yields by nucleophilic aromatic polycondensation using isosorbide as green resources, and bisphenol A with two novel difluoro phosphinothioic amide monomers. Unprecedented, the thiophosphorylated aminoheterocycles monomers, functionalized with two heterocyclic amine, N-methylpiperazine and morpholine were successfully obtained by nucleophilic substitution reaction of P(S)-Cl compound.

In this work, we introduce the concept of dual-color 3D tracking in a double-core microstructured optical fiber that for the first time allows for full 3D reconstruction of the trajectory of a diffusing nanoparticle in a water-filled fiber-integrated microchannel. The use of two single-mode cores provides two opposite decaying evanescent fields of different wavelengths within the microchannel, bypassing spatial domains of ambiguous correlation between the scattered intensity and position.
