Department of Department of Artificial Intelligence, Korea University, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

In this paper, we conduct a detailed investigation on the effect of independent component (IC)-based noise rejection methods in neural network classifier-based decoding of electroencephalography (EEG) data in different task datasets. We apply a pipeline matrix of two popular different independent component (IC) decomposition methods (Infomax and Adaptive Mixture Independent Component Analysis (AMICA)) with three different component rejection strategies (none, ICLabel, and multiple artifact rejection algorithm [MARA]) on three different EEG datasets (motor imagery, long-term memory formation, and visual memory). We cross-validate processed data from each pipeline with three architectures commonly used for EEG classification (two convolutional neural networks and one long short-term memory-based model.

Institute of Management Science, Hohai University, Nanjing 211100, China; College of Management and Economy, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300072, China; The National Key Laboratory of Water Disaster Prevention, Nanjing 210098, China. Electronic address:

There are complex interactions among urban spatial elements in rainstorm scenarios. Road interruptions may cause isolation between partially submerged buildings and emergency service facilities, thereby affecting the recovery capability of flooded buildings and the accessibility of emergency service facilities. This study constructed a compound spatial network of urban buildings-roads-emergency service facilities, and analyzed the complex dynamic impacts of time-varying dynamic floods on building risk, road risk, and emergency service accessibility.

The marketing of insect-derived protein has led to the development of respective legal regulations on such insects-based foods in the European Union. Despite the interest in the area of insect-based food, European researchers have paid relatively little attention to consumer attitudes and behaviors towards such products or the factors that may affect them. Attempts undertaken so far in this respect are insufficient; therefore, there is a need to continue and expand research in this field.

Do adaptive policy adjustments deliver ecosystem-agriculture-economy co-benefits in land degradation neutrality efforts? Evidence from southeast coast of China.

Environ Monit Assess

September 2023

Dongying Base of Integration Between Industry and Education for High-Quality Development of Modern Agriculture, Ludong University, Dongying, 257509, China.

Ecosystem restoration projects (ERPs) facilitate land degradation neutrality (LDN). However, the response dynamics and interactions of sectors within ecosystem-agriculture-economy nexus (EAEN) have not been sufficiently explored, which constrains the coordinated efficacy of LDN efforts. To bridge the knowledge gaps, the present study selected a land restoration hotspot in southeastern China as a case to investigate the simultaneous responses of the EAEN sectors to ERPs from a novel social-ecological system (SES)-based LDN perspective.

Research Institute of Management Science, Business School, Hohai University, Nanjing, 211100, China.

Biodiversity and ecosystem services (ESs) are closely linked. Human activities have caused critical damage to the habitat and ecosystem function of organisms, leading to decline in global biodiversity and ecosystem services. To ensure sustainable development of local ecological environments, it is critical to analyze the spatial matching degree of biodiversity and ESs and identify ecologically vulnerable areas.

Especially in knowledge-intensive professions, workers engage in work-related communication and access digital work content outside of working hours. Scientific research on technology-based work extending has flourished in recent decades, but yielded inconclusive results about its relationship with workers' wellbeing and focused on different temporal characteristics of the behaviour. Consequently, in this article, we address the question of whether different temporal characteristics of technology-based work extending, such as the frequency and duration of the behaviour, may have different consequences for workers' wellbeing.

System comprehensive risk assessment of urban rainstorm-induced flood-water pollution disasters.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

May 2023

Institute of Management Science, Business School, Hohai University, Nanjing, 211100, China.

The urban rainstorm-induced flood-water pollution disaster is a kind of systematic risk, which may induce secondary disasters that can lead to more serious damage, so this paper first adopts the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to determine the flood risk by combining with the submergence depth derived from the risk field and other factors data, and then the grid environmental risk evaluation method, which is improved by increasing the induced possibility based on Bayesian theory, is used to evaluate the flood-induced water pollution risk, and the system comprehensive risk of rainstorm-induced flood-water pollution disasters is finally obtained by constructing risk level matrix, which can well depict the coupling superposition effect. Shenzhen City is selected as the study area, and the results showed that the area with high-risk of both flood and water pollution only accounts for about 0.14% of the total area, mainly distributed in the eastern junction of Longgang district and Pingshan district, where the rainstorms occur frequently and the enterprise risk sources are dense.

Coal chemical enterprises have many risk factors, and the causes of accidents are complex. The traditional risk assessment methods rely on expert experience and previous literature to determine the causes of accidents, which has the problems such as lack of objectivity and low interpretation ability. Analyzing the accident report helps to identify typical accident risk factors and determines the accident evolution rule.

Rapid urbanization improves socioeconomic development but challenges ecosystem sustainability. Meanwhile, the gradient responses of ecosystem services (ESs) to landscape structures and associated regime shifts of the agriculture-ecosystem-economy nexus (AEEN) have not been sufficiently addressed, preventing an effective balance between socioeconomic prosperity and ecosystem conservation. To bridge this knowledge gap, this study selected the Guangdong Province of southeastern China to explore landscape dynamics from 1985 to 2020 and their spatially heterogeneous impacts on ESs and the AEEN, based on Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade-offs approach and other biophysical models as well as statistical records about socioeconomic factors.

A major strategy for addressing the imbalance in source-network-load distribution is interprovincial electricity transmission; however, this process also causes various environmental effects. Previous studies have mainly examined thermal power transmission, and few insights have been gained into the challenges hydroelectricity transmission poses for biodiversity conservation. Here, we innovatively incorporated the freshwater species diversity footprint into a hydropower environmental impact assessment, calculating the interprovincial transfer of freshwater species diversity embodied in hydroelectricity transmission.

The next step for China's national park management: Integrating ecosystem services into space boundary delimitation.

J Environ Manage

March 2023

Research Institute of Management Science, Business School, Hohai University, Nanjing, 211100, China; State Key Laboratory of Hydrology Water Resource and Hydraulic Engineering, Hohai University, Nanjing, 210098, China.

The contradiction between ecological conservation and economic development posed significant challenges to the management of National Parks. From the perspective of Ecological Economics, the cause of the contradiction is the difficulty of creating monetary profits from biodiversity conservation, which is the primary target of National Parks. Integrating Ecosystem Services (ESs) into space boundary delimitation is the next step in National Park management since ESs are closely related to human well-being and can provide monetary benefits.
