This paper presents methods for managing waste produced by the leather industry, including tanning shavings derived from chrome tanning technologies and collagen preparations. Shavings were classified according to their shape (in accordance with Zingg's shape classification). The content of individual elements was determined, together with the content of volatile organic compounds.

This paper proposed a kinetic model that can describe the changes in the adhesion properties of styrene-butadiene (SBS) block copolymer surfaces under the influence of low-temperature plasma treatment. As a measure of these changes, the peel strength of joints formed between the copolymer surface and the polyurethane adhesive was chosen. Five types of low-temperature low-pressure RF plasma, two inert plasmas (Ar and He), and three reactive plasmas (O, CO, and CCl) were tested.

Studies on the surface modification of commercial styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) rubber with different carbon black (CB) nanofiller content (10-80 parts per hundred parts of rubber (phr)) performed by low-pressure oxygen plasma are presented in this paper. The adhesion properties of the rubber were determined by the peel test for adhesive-bonded joints prepared with a water-based polyurethane (PU) adhesive. The chemical structure and morphology of the SBS rubber surface before and after plasma treatment were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively.

The effects of 1-decyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide on activated sludge process and microbial composition were investigated. Ionic liquid (IL) was dosed continuously to the laboratory activated sludge system at an influent concentration from 1 to 20 mg l(-1) for about 1 month. As compared to the control test, mean values of degree of chemical oxygen demand removal and degree of biochemical oxygen demand removal were almost remaining constant at a high level, equaling 92.

Stoichiometry of Cr(III) complexes formed in the organic phases was also discussed. It was found that under the same conditions the yield and the rate of Cr(III) extraction as well as values of mass transfer coefficient increase in the following order of anions: perchlorates
